I'm afraid I have to agree with the one and two star reviews. This thing "sort of" works, but we ended up spending a few extra $$ and bought one of the Zircon electronic stud finders, which we found worked much better. This thing works by finding nails behind the sheet rock that are in the studs, but it was pretty much hit or miss- if you need to find dead center on a stud, I'm not sure I would trust a magnetic finder.
Sorry to be the party crasher on this item, in light of all of the generally positive reviews, but that's the way it goes.

We were super excited to buy this stud finder, because like most reviewers, we have lath and plaster walls. Unfortunately, this just did not work for us. Not sure why our lath and plaster is different, but it only stuck to one place...and I know we have more nails that that. Just not a sure thing.Customer Review: Didn't work for me

I couldn't get this thing to work. I went over the wall about a million times. I spoke to someone at the hardware store who said that the magnetic stud finders can be really hard to use, especially in old buildings.
Finally I just bought a different (non-magnetic) stud finder, which worked great. I got the Zircon StudSensor and had no trouble using it.

I've used many stud finders, and this one is one of the best I've used. The magnets on the stud finder are very strong and give you a great virtual idea as to where the nails on the studs are. It won't work unless there is a metal component on the stud, however, but overall very good for the price!Customer Review: Does exactly what other reviewers said

product is great - I opened the package and started trying it out on my kitchen walls and the garage. Finds everything and it sticks to the wall with its powerful magnets. Other reviewers mentioned that it also will located other "metallic" features such as wiring, etc, so be watchful for that.
