Tools and Hardware Reviews of CST/Berger TLM100 Laser Distance Measurer

Customer Review: A great convenient measuring tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I boght this for my wife (commercial Real Estate broker) and I use it as muvh as she does. Easy to use, accurate and it will do the multiplying for you for finding square feet say carpeting a room or how much tile or drywall, etc. Great Tool!!

Customer Review: Accurate and surprisingly affordable
Summary: 5 Stars

I guess this thing uses a method called "time of flight measurement," same as laser range finders used in the military. Therefore the accuracy is not surprising. But I am amazed by its price and appreciate its design to be rugged and easy to use.

I have had if for a few months and have a few chances to take advantage of it.

I make lasers for a living, different types though.

Customer Review: Accurate as you are
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, this is a very fine and accurate high-precision product. It is generally extremely easy to use indoors. Some menu choices about how long to show a measurement would be handy.

The spot is quite bright indoors but can be difficult to see outside during daylight (if you are measuring a fence for instance) and the grip could be more ergonomic (perhaps that might interfere with the ease of positioning it in multiple axes). The readout is not very bright in dim rooms (needs a backlight) and could be in a larger and more legible font for those of us who are a little visually challenged. (That's what kept me from giving it five stars). Repeated measurements verified the reliable accuracy.

The only real limitation on indoor use (other than legibility of the readout), is the precision with which you can hold it on a spot in perhaps an awkward stance (say over your head on a wall).
The users' manual is worthless, and could give you some tips about how to make sure your measurements are accurate.

If you are trying to measure something a hundred feet away, it really needs a way to attach it to a camera tripod or monopod for example, and a spotting scope to make sure you were focused on the right place at 100 feet would be nice too. It is perfect for computing surface areas for painting or carpet -- your measurements will be as accurate as you are in holding it on the line.

Customer Review: Accurate, Easy-To-Use
Summary: 5 Stars

As a real estate appraiser I use this device on a daily basis. It is especially terrific for indoor use, however works fine outdoors as well. On rainy days, or when homeowners' houses are so heavily packed with junk that it's difficult to get around, this thing saves both time and potentially ripped pants and mud-soaked shoes.

It is very, very accurate. More accurate than a roll-stick and just as accurate as a tape.

At longer distances outdoors, it can be difficult to spot the red-dot in bright sunlight, so if that will be your primary work environment, you may want to get a unit with a view-finder like the TLM300, especially if you're trying to spot a small object. For measuring across lawns fence to fence, the target is big enough that this isn't a problem. I would, however, have liked to have seen a small bubble-level on the side of this device, and perhaps a couple notches on the front and back to use as a sight, like that on a handgun. Still, this rarely is an issue for my purposes.

It is also very, very low priced. Similar models from other companies I've seen are often priced a hundred or two bucks higher.

The holster is nice, and I appreciate that the belt-loop is detachable on one side so I don't have to unbuckle my belt to remove it. The unit fits very snugly inside, and is a bit of a tight fit.

Battery life (9V) is solid; I've only had to replace the battery once after daily use for months.

This unit converts from metric to US feet to US inches at the press of a button and also Adds and Subtracts from previous measurements. I often use this feature when measuring objects which have no surface opposite me to target, like the back of a house. I'll measure the length of the lawn, fence to fence, then use the subtract function to subtract the distance between the house and the fence.

There are a couple features I would have liked to see, the aforementioned bubble-level and sight/viewfinder, and it would've been nice if the unit had a backlight to the display. However the higher end model TLM300 includes all these features as well as an angle-measurer. Still, for the price, this is an awesome tool.

5-stars on this one. This is great!

Customer Review: Accurate, low price
Summary: 5 Stars

The Stanley Laser Measurer should not be confused with inaccurate infrared measurers. The accuracy is as advertised. It has basic functions at an incredible price.
