Tools and Hardware Reviews of CST/Berger TLM100 Laser Distance MeasurerCustomer Review: Its like a sniper rifle vs a shotgun Summary: 5 Stars
I measure crawlspace dimensions all day and have to aim around ductwork, plumbing, wires etc in spaces as tight as 12" tall. I have owned several of the sonic measuring tapes and always had to have a 35' fat max tape on my side for those times when I couldn't use or trust the sonic tapes. This Stanley TLM100 is simply awesome. As long as the laser light hits the wall I'm aiming at I get accurate results every time. With the sonic tape I usually measured multiple times to get a measurement and then once again with a real tape, just to verify. I felt like a beta tester for the thing. This TLM100 has cut my measurement time down drastically as well as my frustration level. The interface is very intuitive, and you can adjust the units to your liking like 10.5 feet or 10'6" and it measures to two decimal places or fractions of an inch, and metric.
The only thing missing is a backlight, but I wear an LED headband light and I probably prefer it without the backlight for longer battery life. In normal light its no problem to read the display.
The other bonus for me is that when you are ready to take a measurement you press the button and the laser turns on and stays on, press the button again the led blinks and turns off with your measurement on the screen, kind of like taking a picture, so you get good feedback that you have taken the measurement and you don't have to hold the device in a position where you have to monitor the read out. I prefer this to having to constantly hold down the button on the sonic tape and switching my view back and forth between the fluctuating readout and realigning with the target and then letting go and hoping for the best.
Need to add or substract a measurement hit the plus/minus key once or twice and shoot again. It shows you the new measurement and the new total. Screw up and miss the second shot, no problem, hit clear and shoot it again. I love it. Plus I can use it as a laser pointer to point out things to my clients.
The sonic tape became more of luxury when I had a wide open space, but I always had to use a tape to make some or most measurements. If I brought my sonic tape sometimes it was nice to have, but it was definitely my secondary measuring tool. And since I would have to pull out my real tape in the middle of the crawlspace, I ended up leaving several sonics behind - good riddens. With the TLM100 is absolutely my primary measuring tool, and now I usually don't bring and don't miss having my real tape.
It was more expensive than I wanted, but I don't regret it and would buy another if I lost it. Also the unit feels very rugged, has a rubber surround and a nice carrying case that I can easily velco around my belt.
Amazon had a great price and free fast shipping.
Customer Review: Laser Measurer Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the FatMax Tru-Laser for my husband for Christmas because we were going to be making an addition to our home. However due to unforeseen circumstances we changed our mind so I thought the present would be obsolete. However my husband was delighted with the gift because there are an amazing number of things to measure, especially for the handyman like my husband. Both our sons are already planning on "borrowing" it from Dad and it will be well used. The item is accurate and saves a lot of time for small and big jobs. This has already proved to be an ideal gift.

I bought this item because I was buying a new house and needed to make a hundred measurements at the model. It works just great and saves so much time messing around with a tape measurer. Extra bonus...I use the laser to play with my kitten who chases it for as long as I will play.

Hard to see the laser beam beyond 25' to know what you are shooting
Customer Review: Must have for DIYs Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent tool. I use it about the house for home projects all the time. Very accurate. Perfect for one person measurement tasks. Always happy to not have to cope with floppy, droopy measuring tapes. I recommend it.
