I didn't have any trouble with this kit. The only brief challenge was figuring out how to remove and insert those hollow pins in the axle. Instructions call for a punch of certain size; I didn't have one, but I managed by driving a skinny screwdriver against the pin with a hammer. Do this step in a vise.Customer Review: As advertised

It's great to be able to find such replacement parts without having to deal with Sears. They don't back their products and look for any way possible to avoid doing so. Even if a potential safety issue has been documented many times they refuse to accept responsibility. It takes actual personal injury or death before they "might".Customer Review: Awesome

I ordered this gear kit on Saturday afternoon and it was delivered on Tuesday. It comes with everything you need including instructions and grease. It takes a little bit of work and you need to lower the opener but it sure beats replacing the unit.Customer Review: BUY THE ASSEMBLED KIT!!!!

Yes, this kit works and once installed it's great. That said, save yourself the massive frustrations and buy the pre-assembled kit. It's worth the extra $10 or $15. In order to replace the large gear, you have to knock out the two pins currently holding the old gear in place. Sounds easy; it's not. This took hours upon hours and I had the proper tools (punch and a hammer). Knocking a pin out of a greased spindle is tricky enough, but the pins are metal and are basically fused to the metal spindle. The garage I repaired was about 8 years old, so perhaps if yours is newer, the pins won't be so firmly set.Customer Review: Bad Engineering

I've done this rebuild twice over the years. The worm gear is nylon and the drive gear is plastic. The nylon just grinds the plastic teeth down to the nubs. Cheaper than a new opener,yes, but it just makes you shake your head about the bad design.
