The Chamberlain WD822KD garage door opener is a very good product. Excellent instructions. A very easy straight forward installation for the average handyman. It took about 3 hours to replace a failed unit (different brand). Works as advertised and very quiet compared to my old chain drive unit. My 12 year old Liftmaster went on the fritz and I needed a quiet replacement. After looking at the reviews, this one came up and Amazon had the best price. There overnight. This was a huge upgrade from a our Craftsman chain driven garage door opener. Our bedroom is above our garage so we wanted the opener to be quieter. This opener is very quiet and works great. Don't be afraid to install it yourself. It's a piece of cake...very easy to follow instruction manual!!Customer Review: Buy an opener that does not need the sensors

Installation was fairly easy, however after struggling to install the sensors on my very old garage door frame I decided to run the garage door opener without them (no kids or pets so no requirement just now) however the garage door opener only opens without the sensors and can not close. There is no way to bypass either. The only way this opener closes is when the sensors are operational and aligned. This is a big negative for me as I can see some kicking the sensors or they just failing over a period of time then I will have to either install a new garage opener or buy new sensors (for some ridiculous price probably). The WD822KD is a very well made product worthy of recommendation. It was easy to install, however, it is not mentioned in the Amazon description that the product as sold will only work with "standard" 7-foot high garage doors. It will not work on a 8 to 10-foot high garage door. When installed, the 7-foot rail that comes with it will not raise 8-foot or higher doors to their maximum height. While this may not be a problem with small cars, if you need the garage door to open all the way for vans/SUVs or larger roof racks, you're out of luck. This can be solved with an extension rail kit available only from Chamberlain for $[...]. First, you'll have to wait a week to get it. Plus, if you just installed your new opener like I did, you'll need to take it back down, reconfigure the rail to the longer length, install the new, longer drive belt, remount the motor unit and hanger brackets further back on the ceiling, reinstall it all, and finally, spend an hour adjusting the travel distances and safety settings. So, be warned, check with the Chamberlain web site first to be sure that the product will work in combination with your garage door.
