Tools and Hardware Reviews of Clocky Alarm Clock on Wheels, AlmondCustomer Review: Clocky is nice if you don't need to change the batteries. Summary: 3 Stars
I received a clocky in 2008 for Christmas but after the batteries died and I went to change them even with the pull strap they didn't come out easily. Once they finally did come out they bent the springs and the opposite end with the plates were awkwardly bent as well. I tried putting new batteries in and after ten minutes of struggle without it turning on and trying to push the battery in carefully one of them broke and started leaking.
It's an awesome alarm clock but they really should make the battery compartment easier to deal with. Maybe I was just unlucky with mine. I would get another but the price is a bit high.
Customer Review: Everything is great, except quality Summary: 2 Stars
Everything is great, except quality, 'made in China' label proves it. Clocky can jump only from small height according to the manual, so I put it on bedside table and there was a carpet in the room. Anyway after two weeks sound stopped working and my Clocky became just silent clock :).
Customer Review: Feels cheap Summary: 1 Stars
I received one of these as a gift. I've had it for less than a day and I already dislike it. For such a large price tag, it certainly feels cheap.
My biggest complaint is the LED display. It can become extremely faint if you don't look directly at it. Your line of sight needs to be perpendicular to the LED display. If there is significant tilt, the digits become hard or near impossible to read. Moreover, the LED display is small. If you're on the other side of the room, good luck reading the time -- you'll need it.
These are *fundamental* design issues! What good is a clock if you can't tell the time?
There are other complaints (like the battery cover, need for 4 AAA batteries, having to re-enable the alarm everyday if you want to use it daily, etc.), but it seems like other reviews have covered them. This clock could have been awesome, but it's very poorly engineered. Just realize you're spending money on a gimmick. Other than the fact that it rolls away, it is really an inferior alarm clock. I have a generic clock I bought at Target that is much better at doing what a clock is supposed to do.
Customer Review: Finally, Something for Hypersomniacs.... Summary: 4 Stars
This clock is not for anyone with a heart condition or gentle constitution. Clocky went off, clanging and whistling some some mechanical banshee, and I nearly jumped out of my skin, clinging to the ceiling by my fingernails like a cartoon cat.
Perfect.
If you're starting to habituate to your present alarm clock, press the snooze button to often or find the process of waking up pales in comparison to anything the Marquis de Sade could come up with, then this is the clock for you.
Customer Review: Good - with a few issues Summary: 3 Stars
Here's the good:
-The alarm is extremely loud, jarring, and unpredictable. There is NO way you could ever sleep through it.
-The controls are easy to use.
-It's smaller than I thought it would be, so it fits easily on the nightstand.
-When given the right opportunities, it really does "run off" and cause you to get out of bed.
The bad:
-The button you use to turn off the alarm really TURNS OFF the alarm. If you don't remember to hit again, your alarm will be OFF and won't go off the next morning. So, shutting off the alarm turns it off completely. I got caught by that once or twice. :-(
-Clocky is kind of stupid and doesn't have a large variety of programmed paths. Mine always tries to take a left after jumping off the table and ends up bonking into stuff under the bed uselessly until I turn it off or snooze. It stays easily within my reach. If I put it on the floor after I hit snooze the first time, it tends to do better.
-I'll have to see if after extended use the alarm really drives me (or my fiance) crazy.
