Tools and Hardware Reviews of Coaster Coat Rack with Twisted Post in CherryCustomer Review: Coat tree Summary: 3 Stars
This is a beautiful coat tree; however, it came missing a part to put it together. We had to put a dowel in the last piece to finish it.
Customer Review: Do not buy this coat rack! Summary: 1 Stars
The old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies to this product. If you want a cheap coat rack, and aren't concerned about whether it will hold any coats, then this is the product for you. It doesn't look half-bad. But it is so poorly constructed as to be worthless for its intended purpose. It arrived defective (one of the pegs for hanging coats did not fit in the hole it should have screwed into), and broke as I was assembling it (no instructions included). The wood splintered upon assembly and my attempts to fix it only made it worse (more splintering). I did manage to get it assembled with some "quick fixes" (thinking I was being handy) and it worked for about a day. Then we put coats on it - bad idea. It couldn't handle the weight of two winter coats, and the leg that I'd fixed broke off entirely. I would not recommend this product. I agree with other reviewers - spend a little more money and get something sturdier. I never write reviews but this experience was so bad I had to warn other potential buyers.
Customer Review: Don't be a slob - hang it up! Summary: 4 Stars
This is an easy-to-assemble coat rack that comes in three main pieces that screw together. The pegs screw on separately to the top piece. The legs, three of them, however, have no mechanism to hold them in place that I could see. Other then the weight of the unit holding them in their slots, they are a weak spot. The come loose and the unit falls over. You must get some good carpenter's glue and glue them in place. If that doesn't work, you'll have to screw or nail them in place. That is the inexplicable shortcoming of this otherwise good-looking and useful piece.
Addendum: I finally got around to getting out a tube of titebond wood glue (messy stuff that it is) and glued the legs to the center pole. Voila! Perfection now. But what a design flaw.
Customer Review: Don't be fooled... Summary: 1 Stars
... by the higher "retail" price of this item. Sure it is a great deal for a coat rack. What is it now, $15? There is a reason this thing is $15. It actually looks pretty nice (like it would be well worth the $15). The problem is that the craftsmanship is complete garbage. The three leg base is not just insufficient to handle any load (including just three fall coats), but it split and fell apart within 4 hours of putting it together. Okay, I can see your thought process panning out already. Yes, I am a very capable "handyman" if you will, and fully capable of correctly putting together a few pieces of wood that screw together. No, I did not beat the legs in place with a hammer. :) The area at the bottom of the rack if very thin as it has been slotted to allow for the three legs to be installed. This thin material makes cracking or complete splitting very likely (trust me, I have first hand experience now). The thin material and weak construction leads to a very unstable coat rack that will tip with minimal weight placed on it (that is if you can even get to the point of being able to hang coats on it). Now I never take time to write reviews, and have bought hundreds of products on Amazon. So you can understand that it took a lot of motivation for me to actually do so. I would never recommend this product to anyone, and ask that you consider spending a little more on a better made product. Best of luck!
Customer Review: Don't buy it Summary: 1 Stars
Seriously, this item is a waste. I put it together and put it in the trash the same day. Soon as I put up 3 coats on it, the legs on the base broke off. Glue doesn't help. Sure a full roll of duct tape will hold it together but who wants that eyesore? Don't buy this product. Go for a metal coat rack.
