Although attractive, there is a design flaw in the connection to the base of this coat rack. Once assembled, it is unstable, rocks, and does not stand straight. I am very disappointed and am hoping my son-in-law can fix its instability.Customer Review: Broke back coat rack

I bought this coat rack months ago and I would say got a few months of good use out of it. To start with - it was relatively easy to assemble and I think it looks pretty nice as well. Definitely has a cheap feel to it but nonetheless I thought it was adequate. There are 3 of us piling winter coats and sweaters and such on it. I would estimate about 12 or so coats/sweaters total on it. Over the course of its life, despite being screwed in tightly, the pole would still sway back and forth depending on weight distribution (was not stable at all). And at one point it just toppled over and broke. I suspect that if we did not have the base wedged in, it would have just knocked over entirely but because it was wedged the pressure cracked the metal. And when I saw the way the piece was constructed, I was appalled. The main pole is welded on to the base-piece literally by two half-centimeter areas of contact. It breaks so easily.
In any case, I gave it 2 stars and not one because I take some fault in our overpacking the coat rack. Maybe this isn't meant to take so much pressure. But just FYI, if you plan to use this for a ton of coats - it may break on you.
