Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cobra Products 400 Zip-It Drain Cleaning Tool

Customer Review: Cleaned my drain.
Summary: 5 Stars

It cleaned out my drain. What else can I say? Works as advertised.

Customer Review: Clever and effective
Summary: 4 Stars

This does what it claims to do -- be prepared with a large trash bag to put the gunked-up tool in once you withdraw it from the drain. I'd have given it five stars but for $4.99 I wish there had been two or three in one package -- it is a ONE USE ONLY tool. I mean, it's a piece of plastic -- and you could probably use a second or even a third one to really get the accumulated hair and whatever out of your bathroom drain. Consider ordering a second or third one of these. Worth the money, but a second one in the same package wouldn't be expecting too much in terms of value.

Customer Review: Clogged my drain worse
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't know who piped older houses but they never gave a thought to having to repair/replace plumbing pipes. The one in our master bathroom is in frequent need of cleaning and the way I have to do it is by taking apart the plunger pin apparatus under the sink--forgive me if I don't know the correct terms, I'm not a plumber. After taking out the sink plunger I can usually extract a wad of hair/crud that I couldn't get to before. But with the goofy angle of the pipes under the sink, reinserting and reassembling the plunger are a B---ch with a capital B. Usually takes 15 minutes before I have the angle of the pieces just right. So I thought I'd try the Zip-It because our drain was starting to slow again and I did NOT want to wrestle with the pipes.

I inserted the Zip-It 4 times completely and pulled out a little bit of stuff but nothing compared to what I was used to. And that's when I decided to try a little water to see if it drained any better. If anything, it was even slower. I waited for the water to drain and then tried the Zip-It again. Nothing changed. So I had to go back to my old stand-by and pull the plunger piece out. I then proceeded to use the Zip-It for about ten minutes, fishing around and trying to unclog the drain as if it were an actual plumbing snake.

Well, the slowed drain is gone--I've now got a clogged drain with standing water.

The reason I graciously give it two stars is that it might work for some drains but not the one I was working on.

Customer Review: Cool Invention For Unclogging Drains!
Summary: 5 Stars

We had had a clog in one of our bathroom sinks for the past few weeks. I guess you could call it a "slow drain," where the basin fills up fast and takes a long time to drain out. My wife checked the trap, which was clear, and we'd tried all the traditional chemicals, to no avail. This weekend I found this, a much better answer to our drain troubles, and it doesn't even have any chemicals to dump into the water supply.

The product is basically a 16" plastic strip with a bunch of teeth on it. You stick the Zip It down the drain, and slowly pull it back up. I pulled up enough hair and other gunk to make me think I had lost a hamster down there at some point. I used the Zip It to clean out all the drains in the house, and then tossed it. It's disposable! Consider this product Mike V approved!

I am not the most handy person around, as my wife can attest. My greatest accomplishment as a homeowner was installing some dimmer switches without burning the house down. Of course my lowest point was falling through the ceiling, from the attic. So any easy household tool that can make me a hero is a very valuable find, indeed. Before calling a plumber or buying chemicals for your shower or bathroom sink clogs, try this product first. It really works!

Customer Review: Cousin It is no longer in my tub drain
Summary: 5 Stars

I just used one of these to clear my slow draining tub. This produuct does a great job snagging the hair and pulling it all out. I did the sink while I was at it and liked how easy it was to slide the strip by the drain stopper. With other devices, I had to remove the stopper to get to the clog. I recommend buying several of these because there is no way that you want to try to clean a used one off. I'm ordering a few more now.
