Tools and Hardware Reviews of Combat Ant Killing Gel 27gramsCustomer Review: Buy more than 1 tube! Summary: 3 Stars
Not sure on how the product works yet!
However, I bought this to put in my bedroom windowsill (it's rather long) and I ran out of product half way through. Also when applying it was really annoying because there seemed to be air bubbles and u would push and then nothing would come out then push again and a whole bunch would come out!
So looks like i'm going to have a buy another tube just to cover the windowsill. Hopefully this stuff works!
Customer Review: Combat Ant Gel Summary: 5 Stars
I just moved into a new home & found out there was a severe ant problem! There were giant, black ants all over the kitchen area & they were going into other parts of the house as well. I wasn't sure what product to buy to get rid of them so I looked around in the stores. I found Combat Ant Gel & decided to buy it. I watched the ants & found out where they were coming in & put the ant gel down. That night, there were at least 50 ants eating the gel. The very next morning, I only saw 2 ants. After that, I didn't see anymore & haven't in a few weeks. This stuff worked within ONE DAY! I would highly recommend this to anyone having an ant problem. Was well worth the money.
Customer Review: Combat Ant Killing Gel with FIPRONIL -- it is a WINNER! Summary: 5 Stars
This has been the most effective ant eliminator I've ever tried. We had these black ants invading our high rise condo unit. Sprays and other baits failed to foil them. They kept marching in and getting into everything.
We bought this syringe tube of Combat Ant Killing Gel containing Fipronil as the active ingredient (DO NOT BUY ANYTHING BUT A PRODUCT CONTAINING FIPRONIL). It took some getting used to how much pressure to apply to the syringe to dispense the ant gel. My first attempts resulted in large glops. Over a couple of days I got the hang of it. The best way is to create a feeder area with a couple of dozen dots so that ants can feed in large packs before taking them back to the nest. Fipronil is at worst a slow acting nerve poison that allows ants to feed, then harbor them back to the colony where it can be shared among other colony members. As we were more than 20 floors high perhaps it took 5 days to stop the ants instead of a day or two (long trip back to the nest). Voila! The ants stopped coming and it has been months since the invasion. I have only used but one tenth of the tube so this effective ant treatment program will last me years!
I tried this at a friend's home where they had a large infestation. So we used a lot more product, enough for hundreds to swarm and feed. Two days later the ants were gone! I'm impressed.
Remember: only Combat products with Fipronil work this good.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Customer Review: Combat does work!! ----sometimes Summary: 5 Stars
Combat is a great product and will work just fine if used as directed, most of the time, however Carpenter, As well as other ants have a changing appetite. If you use Combat in the early spring when you first see the ants, Combat will be very effective as the ants are very hungry. At other times later in the summer it will not be as effective. If ants do not want to eat the bait, try mixing it with a dab of peanut butter or even honey. Please remember other things, pets and bees will be attracted to the honey or peanut butter so do so with caution.
Even if you think the ants are not eating it some ants mostly very young ants will and it only takes a few eating it to take out the nest.
Customer Review: Contains the insecticide proven most effective Summary: 5 Stars
The reason I titled this review as I did is because an ant control "product" isn't what works per se, it's the insecticide it contains, followed by whether the ants will eat the bait or just walk through it. I spent a great deal of time researching, and according to university studies, fipronil is the most effective ingredient because it spreads easily through the colony and yet its toxicity is sufficiently delayed that the ants don't die before they can pass it on. As a result 95% eradication of the colony within 3 days is typical.
That's what the research says compared to other ingredients, and it worked just as well for me on every occasion that I've had to use it. If I come home to discover an ant invasion, I remove competing sources of food (read: clean better and take the trash out) find where the ants seem to be entering the house, and apply the gel (wear a rubber glove; it's hard not to get some on your skin). The sight of ants lining up around the bait like little pigs at a trough is quite gratifying. They eat their fill, leave, and never come back. It may take 3 days to completely wipe out the colony, but every time I've used it the ants eat, leave after a few hours, and never return.
Now, perhaps I've been fortunate in that they have always eaten the gel. Fipronil should work if you just contrive to have them walk through the gel, but obviously if they eat and share with their buddies it's a guaranteed home run. However, there are sweet ants and protein ants, and it's likely some species may not take a given bait no matter what the product is. In that case you could mix the gel with, say, peanut butter for grease/protein ants. If they don't eat the gel, you obviously need to find out what food they like. The benefit of a gel product like this is that you can mix it with anything. There are some other products like Maxforce FC that also use fipronil, but again the takeway is: 1) use a fipronil-based product, and 2) find a way to get them to eat it if they don't eat the gel itself. Do that and the battle will be won very quickly, and you can bask in the triumph of superior intelligence and the scientific method; never again will the legions of tiny invaders cause undue consternation.
