Tools and Hardware Reviews of Conair GS29 Instant Heat Ionic Professional Garment Steamer

Customer Review: Broken right out of the box
Summary: 1 Stars

After assembly I found that this item was broken right out of the box. There was a short in the pause button so the pause would not turn on and off. Great feature if it had worked.

Also, this steamer is very light. If you are putting it on tile such a a bathroom floor, it is very easy to roll and turn over.

Very cheap plastic parts.

Spend a few more dollars and get a Rowenta!

Customer Review: Conair GS29 steamer review
Summary: 4 Stars

After a long search, price and review combined consideration led me to purchase Conair GS29 heat steamer. Generally, user reviews were consistently better than many others. I did not expect anything fancy but removing weak wrinkles at the convenience of steam. Steam was generated around 30-45 seconds and it lasted long enough for my use (about 25 min) with just one fill of tap water. It was great to have the foot button to start and stop the steam. The built-in hanger was small so that shirts would not open wide. To remove wrinkle, I had to use my one hand to hold and stretch the shirt. The hold on shirts was not easy with one hand. Weak wrinkles were removed. Especially, wrinkle-free dress shirts were well suited with steamer. Cotton shirts were also ok but not straightened as ironing. Overall, it satisfied my needs since I mostly bought wrinkle-free shirts. But, it is definitely not a substitute for an iron. With the affordable price (I paid $70s shipped) and convenience, it was worth.

Customer Review: Good results; better ones with user practice
Summary: 4 Stars

This product seems to be exactly as described. I do find that my results improve as I get more experience using it. For pants, it's great & easy to use. For shirts, fairly easy. For ladies blouses, though, with darts and/or curved fitting seams, it's more of a challenge. I think one help would be if the casters locked so that the unit didn't roll around while you're using it. I wonder if a seamstress's dress form would help for the more fitted tops. I am determined to get even better results with practice. Overall I'm very satisfied with this clothes steamer.

Customer Review: Great at first but had issues later...
Summary: 2 Stars

This thing started out great. It heats up fast, puts out a lot of steam and does a nice job of handling the stuff I steam. It comes with a couple attachments that aren't bad either for the price, although the built in hanger really isn't all that useful.

The issues started about 6 months after I got it. The steaming head started to leak and leak badly. The seam along the outside edge of the steam head started to separate. This allowed all the HOT water droplets that developed from the steam to leak out all over the place. It dripped all over my clothes, floor and if I wasn't careful, on me. Hot water droplets don't tickle.

I ended up using some sealant I had and put a bead if it around the outter edge of the head to keep it from leaking. This worked but a couple months later, the thing started to stop steaming every 30 seconds or so. It would steam fine for 30 seconds, then the steam would slowly stop coming out for about 20 seconds, then it would ramp up again and be fine for another 30 seconds. It seemed like the heater was shutting off every so often. You could hear the unit heat the water when it was steaming but hear it stop when it decided to stop steaming.

I cleaned it several times, but it didn't help. The constant on again off again steam drove me to stop using this unit. It was taking me almost twice as long to steam something because I'd have to stop and wait while it stopped steaming.

I liked the unit, but the lasting quality was lacking.

Customer Review: Great results and easy to use
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this steamer when I got way behind on my ironing and got tired of piles of laundry on the floor (clean), I have a 24 months old and a 3 months old and work part time and take care of the house and cook, I had absolutely no time to iron. I am not going to make things seem better, I will only say that since my second child was born I only managed to iron once for about 4 hours. I bought this steamer today when I went to buy a new bigger ironing board (did not buy it). Once I turned this steamer on, I did ALL of the "ironing" in one evening, I'd guess it took me 4.5-5 hours. I want to say it again, I had A LOT to iron, 4 big piles! I am so happy that I can see my carpet now. And it did a good job, it comes with a crease attachment that works pretty good. Be sure to use some props as the steam is super hot. The hose did not get hot on me at all, I had my toddler walk around and touch it many times, no worries, it is double insulated. Don't even hesitate and buy this steamer. You know that if anything goes wrong you have a 1 year warranty on it. The only 3 complains I have is that I wish the pole was higher, I am 5'4" and had to sit down a bit to steam and it got to my lower back after a while, and another complain I have is that the hanger it comes with is useless for hanging clothes, it holds that steamer head and that's about it. You will find yourself hanging your clothes on regular hangers and hanging that onto the hanger the steamer comes with. And the final comment I have is that the steam runs out pretty quick, I wish the unit held more water, an hour flies by. Also, buy it at Target. I bought mine at Linens'n'Things for $20 more.
