I bought these after buying the kids autoseal cups because our family (adults included) always manages to spill everything. I love it for the sealing capability. We've used these almost daily for 3 months now and have not experienced ANY issues with fowl odor or funk in our lids. I rinse water (lukewarm tap) through the mouth opening before placing in the dishwasher. The plastic lid has absorbed a 'coffee' smell, but is not at all offensive. I love these and plan on buying some for my brother's b-day. We have the 24 oz plastic water bottles too - narrow enough to fit in cup holders, but a little top-heavy, so 4-stars for those since they topple over more easily...5 stars on the kids' cups.
