Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cosco 11120RED1 Retro Chair/Step Stool, RedCustomer Review: Costo Stool Summary: 3 Stars
This stool is pretty to look at, but the extra steps are not attached. They slide back and forth and fall off all the time. Finally took them off and are using them to display flowers.
Customer Review: Couldn't Put Together Summary: 1 Stars
I have assembled a lot of furniture in my day. This is the first piece that defeated me to the point of anger and readiness to completely disassemble and ship back to amazon. The screws thread way too easily, the plastic runner for the step stool is cheap and counter-productive to the overall design, and to top it all, one of the metal screw holes still had metal inside. When I almost had the piece completely assembled I noticed the chair wouldn't sit level. After too many hours sweating and cursing, then getting my husband involved and he sweating and cursing, we realized that it's just not worth our time for this chair. I'd love it to work, but now I know why the vintage ones sell for $70+ on ebay. I intend to go find one now and bid on it asap.
Customer Review: Definitely not the real thing... Summary: 4 Stars
I got this item about four days ago and was a bit dismayed when I saw some of the plastic parts, like the "sleeves" on the base of the seat that the legs are supposed to be screwed into, and the two plastic tracks that the glider pins on the steps move along when they're pulled out.
It really was a huge pain to assemble, but with some muscle we managed to put it together.
Once assembled, it does seem a lot more sturdy than one would expect given the plastic parts and the relatively light weight of some of the metal parts.
When moving it from one place to the next, it's necessary to hold onto the bottom (the steps) or else one of the pins will come out of the track, which was what happened today. I thought it would have to be taken apart to put that pin back in the track but twisting the stairs just a bit made it possible to slip the pin back into place.
OK, so it's not the all-metal behemoth we remember from our childhoods, but it's sturdy enough to support my weight...let's just say I am a bit "zaftig"...and the red color looks great in my kitchen. Really brightens it up and makes it cheerful.
If you have the patience to deal with parts that aren't exactly precision made, it's a pretty good deal and I hope it lasts as long as my previous very heavy stepstool did (14 years).
Customer Review: Did Not Like At All Summary: 2 Stars
My Grandmother had one of these in her kitchen and I can remember all the kids fighting over who got to sit on the stool at large family gatherings. I'm really sorry that I let her's get away from us when she died. I was so excited to see this stool on Amazon and could not wait to get it. But I returned it within less than 5 minutes of taking it out of the box. First of all it is a lot smaller than you think. My daughter's wooden highchair is larger than this stool. But what really made me dislike it is the color. To call it red is very misleading. I would say it was closer to orange, which doesn't appeal to me or match my kitchen.
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
Very disappointed in the Cosco Red Retro Chair/Step Stool. Cheaply made, not real reliable as a step stool, would discourage it. Not sturdy enough to use as a step stool for anyone. Nice decorative addition to the home. Would only use for just a chair to sit on mostly.
