This item is light blue, not white as it appears in the image. No problem for me, since my house is light blue with white trim. The clothes line is heavy polyvinyl. It pulls out and retracts just fine. The clothes line container is a bit larger than expected. I'm happy. No problems. Works great in my backyard. This is a fairly well made and affordable laundry line. I'd be very pleased with it, but its line-locking mechanism is insufficient. It's designed so that you tuck the line around a little catch, but this friction hold is insufficient to suspend the weight of a normal laundry load. You put a pair of jeans on the line and the line slips and sags to the ground... every time. This design could be corrected if they were to add one or two more friction points to wrap the line around.
I think I'll keep it and add some hooks myself to make up for what the product lacks. I'm hoping this will fix the problem. They really need to deal with this, because as it stands, as much as I'd like to, I could not recommend this product to anyone.

I was looking forward to my retractable clothesline, set it up, tightened it, using the wraparound hook, and hung clothes. BUT, it slowly loosens up, getting lower and lower. I fixed the problem, using a clothesline prop, but shouldn't have to do that. They should stay tight like the manufacturer says. Very sturdy, but because it is 40 feet, we had to anchor it at its full length, since there is no clip to stop it at a shorter distance. It is working just fine.
