Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet FilterCustomer Review: Better than Brita! Summary: 5 Stars
What can I say? Great build quality & good tasting water. After using Brita filters for a number of years I became sick of replacing them when they started to leak.
The Culligan unit is metal construction and has a 200-gallon filter. After some calculations I've determined that a once a year replacement is all that is needed for the filter cartridge. That means alot of $$$ saved over the Brita unit.
Customer Review: Better than PUR Summary: 4 Stars
I've owned the PUR faucet mount - in fact, I've owned 4 of them. I really liked the taste that the PUR filter produced but it is an incredibly poor design which constantly breaks. Well, I found this Culligan faucet mount and figured I'd give it a try. I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It's a much more robust design than the PUR model and it produces good tasting water. I live in the metro Detroit area which has very good water quality, so I cannot say how good it would work if it were to be used in a location with poor water quality. I can say that I am happy I made the switch to a superior product.
Customer Review: Better than expected Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using this filter for about one month now. Generally speaking, it works very well. The flow of filtered water is on the slower side, but it just means that the water does have to be pushed through some filtration material instead of just flowing freely - along with all the contaminants. So far, no water leaked from any part of the filter assembly.
Installation is simple as long as you use common sense and maybe a small bit of silicone grease around the rubber O-rings. The filter replaces your aerator with its own, so do not loose your old aerator in case if you would ever have to remove this filtration system.
The filter assembly stays out of your way when you have to use the dish-washing sink and it is a big plus. So, you do not have to get a taller faucet to be able to start using the filter.
As far as the actual filtered water taste goes, I believe that some PUR counter top filtration systems offer somewhat better resulting taste, but they work mad slow, so it is hard to compare such different approaches to water filtration. Then again, I may be inclined to like the PUR taste better, because I have been using it longer.
Customer Review: Better than the Pur filter! Summary: 4 Stars
Some people would consider me a water snob, but I can't drink tap water. First, I tried buying a cooler and some water bottles and refilling them at my local Rite Aid, but that got really annoying really soon. Then, I had water delivered to my house, but then I was paying more than $50 a month! So, I opted for the water filter. I bought a Pur water filter. It worked great (great!) for the first few months, but after I replaced the cartridge, the filter started leaking. I'm not the only one, read the reviews.
So, I looked and looked, and all faucet filters (Pur, Brita) had leaking problems. So, I tried the Culligan (cheap, recognizable brand name). It didn't disappoint. Water tastes great, and it has a cheap replacement cartridge. Best of all, no leaks!!!!
Only drawback: Pur and Brita let you know when you need to replace the cartridge by flashing a red light. Culligan's cartridge "has" to be replaced every two months, and you don't know if it actually needs to be replaced sooner or later. Other than that, fantastic filter.
Edit (June 12, 2009):
Unfortunately, my Culligan has started dying on me. The filter has a clever mechanism to switch from regular water to filtered water. I don't know if it's because the water is too hard, but that mechanism gets stuck now. It's no big deal; you just have to remember to make sure you switch to regular water after each use. Otherwise, you could turn on the hot water and ruin the filter.
Customer Review: Better than the other leaky brands. Summary: 4 Stars
I tried Pur and the leaking was terrible. I saw reviews that this product was better, and it is. I only wish it had a light to detect when
the filter needed replacing. It is simple, less expensive and I've had no problems with leaking at all!
