Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan US-EZ-4 EZ-Change Level-4 Under-Sink Drinking Water SystemCustomer Review: Decent system at a decent price Summary: 4 StarsShortly after moving to a small, rural town we received a mandatory notice from the water company stating that they were in violation of some EPA mandate. So, we began looking into water filters. We originally went with one of those faucet-mounted type filters. For whatever reason our water was really hard on those particular filters--after about a week the water flow became very weak and we had to replace the filter every 3 weeks or so (for 2 people that seemed like a lot). That got old quickly and after doing some research, we decided to replace our faucet-mounted filter with the Culligan Level 4 system. It's been a little over a year since we bought the system and overall I am pleased with it. It was fairly easy to install (and I'm no plumber) and we now replace filters every six months or so. The only drawback is the plastic faucet that comes with this kit. We were actually able to install the faucet without any problems, but it broke after 8-9 months. We replaced it with a model we found at our local hardware store and haven't had any problems since.
Customer Review: Good alternative to bottled water Summary: 4 StarsThe installation: Just like everyone says on the reviews, the parts are cheap and are made of plastic. You have to be very careful not to overtighten and strip the threads. It's a simple set-up. Main water line patches through the to the filter, and another line goes out to the newly installed faucet. It did leak on me because I didn't screw everything tight enough because I was afraid of stripping it.
As with every kind of water installation, you have to keep a check on it for 24hrs to ensure no leaks. What I did was put a bucket to catch any water and a paper towel above the bucket to see where the water was leaking from. After I made the fixes, it has never leaked since. It's been over 8 months.
The water & taste: I can definitely tell a difference in the taste of the water. I live around farm area. Because it so easily available, I drink a lot more water too. The water flow is slow though. Filling a 32 oz bottle takes about a 50 seconds.
Warning: If you don't have a predrilled hole, you will need a diamond head drill bit (cost around $15 at Lowes) if you have a cast iron sink. It's a pain in the butt and takes a long time. It's worth it once it's done.
Overall, I recommend this filter especially if you have a predrilled hole.
Customer Review: Not as good as it used to be Summary: 1 StarsStarted to leak after two years of use. Has Culligan gone the way of the rest of the "make-it-disposable" business culture?
Customer Review: Crappy faucet! Summary: 3 StarsI read the negative reviews about the hardware and still bought it thinking that I would be ok as long as I'm careful and there were very good reviews about the filter itself. Well, the white plastic part that screws into the base of the faucet broke as we were installing it. I ended up buying another faucet from the store. I would suggest that you just buy the filter from Culligan and get the faucet separately.
Customer Review: tastes good, easy to install Summary: 5 StarsBefore you start this project, make sure to track down your Teflon tape. Also- when you're figuring out where to place the screws that hold the mounting bracket, be sure you have enough space above and also to the sides of the filter for the hoses. I found assembly to be pretty easy, even considering that I was under the kitchen sink in a very awkward position for a while!
The water tastes great. It comes out slow, but then it's got a lot to get through in order to get to your glass. Did not get the dual stage filter b/c people convinced me that being on city water- nearly all sediment is already filtered from our water so the sediment filter is really not necessary.
