Tools and Hardware Reviews of D-Con 00027 Ultra Set Covered Snap Mouse TrapCustomer Review: Best trap in existence, but... Summary: 4 Stars
This trap is the only trap that outsmarts the mice every time. I've tried over a dozen different models, from live catch to quick kill, and only two work reliably -- this one, and the Kness Tip-Trap. The main downside to the Tip-Trap is that smart mice can figure it out and avoid it altogether -- they know something's up. The d-Con fools even the guys who can lick a metal trap clean without trigger.
The only downside is that they're reusable only 2-3 times. After that, the very sensitive sensor (which is why its so effective) can't be reset, and you have to throw it out. For the price, it's still a deal, but please don't expect them to work more than 2-3 times before needing replacement. (I'm on my third in just under a year.)
Customer Review: Best. Trap. Ever. Summary: 5 Stars
I had the craptastic D-con circular traps sitting out for YEARS, and they served as little more than the local hangout spot for my mice (and unfortunately recently the occasional NYC rat).
But D-Con redeemed themselves with this trap. I'd originally wanted to buy these to start with, but they were constantly sold out here; not shocking considering how much the average New Yorker is desperate for any solution to keep these rodents held at bay. Finally, after not seeing any rodents for damn near a year, I was overrun after back to back snow and ice storms forced whole families to relocate in my brownstone, and I just got the traps right here on Amazon. And they work. Period. Caught five mice in less than a week, and the traps are designed so you never have to see anything carnage beyond a portion of the tail.
But I'm going to let you in on another secret; rodents can not abide 100% peppermint oil (that's oil, not extract, and it must be 100%). Since they primarily guide themselves olfactorily, the oil is almost poison for them, and I've read it literally burns their nostrils. I bought Peppermint Oil 4 fl.oz, and got to work. It is a very potent oil, and so a couple drops on well placed cotton balls are all you really need. Set them in key entry places, or known high traffic areas for the critters, around your home and it's the perfect repellant. For additional coverage dilute .5 ounces for every two cups of water, and spray where necessary. Smells great, and works like a dream. Since laying it down I've not seen a single rodent, despite our kitchen not being nearly as clean as it should be, and none of the traps have gone off. It had gotten so bad that we could hear those awful high pitched squeals nightly, often in what sounded like blood-combat, now, save once when we heard something trying to come up from the basement apartment, only to promptly turn right back around, nothing.
Customer Review: CLEAN AND QUICK Summary: 5 Stars
THIS IS A NO MESS GEM! I CAUGHT SIX MICE THE FIRST TWO DAYS AND HAVEN'T SEEN ANY SINCE. WONDERFUL PRODUCT!
Customer Review: Catches Mice but..... Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this because I had mice in my kitchen. I set it up using a small dab of peanut butter. The first night it caught a mouse. A couple nights later it caught another mouse. Then it stopped working. The setting mechanism no longer works. When I try to set it, it won't lock in place any more. So, it caught 2 mice and then became junk. However, it was easy to dispose of the mice once caught. I like the item, but wish it had lasted a little longer.
Customer Review: Catches, but does not kill, mice Summary: 1 Stars
I was really displeased with the performance of this trap. One of these traps caught a mouse the first night it was out, but failed to actually kill the mouse. When I released the mouse into the trash bin, it limped around, still alive. I had to dispatch the mouse myself to put it out of its misery. I do not recommend this trap.
