Tools and Hardware Reviews of D-Con 00027 Ultra Set Covered Snap Mouse Trap

Customer Review: Durable and Useful - Easy to use and works well
Summary: 5 Stars

WE went looking for a mouse trap that my mom's dogs would not bother. They liked to set off the board/spring traps she was using.
These d-Con traps work very well. The dogs do not bother them and the mice keep coming to be killed.
Traps are easy to set and Mom has re-used them several times. They ARE disposable, but you can re-use them.

I would recommend these to anyone who has children or pets that might bother traditional board/spring traps. These are much safer and cleaner. If you want to toss them out after one use, they are cheap enough to do so. But if you want to reuse them, that is possible as well.

Customer Review: Easy to use!

As fall moved in this year here in New England, I discovered that field mice wanted to set up housekeeping in my kitchen. My nice young landlord came stuffed a few gaps full of steel wool and set a couple of those traditional wooden mouse traps for me. Worked like a charm. I had barely turned out the lights when the traps went off and started clattering across the kitchen floor. Fair enough - but then there were more mice. The nice young landlord showed me how to reload the traps after discarding the mouse, which of course requires you to handle nasty wires covered in mouse guts. After struggling for about 3 hours and setting exactly no traps - my hands are not strong enough anymore - I came to Amazon to find something that I could easily set, that would in fact catch mice and that would not require me to touch the results. The d-CON 00027 Ultra Set Covered Mouse Trap fits the bill! This trap is really easy to load, even for my older hands. You don't end up with the thing snapping your fingers. It is even easier to unload - walk out the door, open the front flap and the mouse drops out. Best of all, you don't even have to pick up the trap to see if there is a mouse - if the lever is still down, the trap is still loaded. Highly recommended and I will be ordering more!

ADDENDUM: Today is February 2, 2011. My mousetraps have been catching a mouse each a day, every day, since the I got them. I have yet to have one fail or break and they are still dead easy to load. Some of the best money I've ever spent!

Customer Review: Effective
Summary: 5 Stars

I tried the regular wooden snap traps and the circular ones without success. The mice in my house are too smart for them. They spring the traps and make off with the bait. I don't know how they do it with the circular traps, but they do it.

As effective as these traps are, I had to be a little crafty with them in order to outsmart the mice. They love strawberry pop tarts. I started by placing some pop tart crumbs at the entrance without setting the trap and the next day they were gone. Again, without setting the trap, I put a few small crumbs in the entrance and a bigger one inside the bait cup. He gobbled them up too.

Thinking I'd finally lulled him into complacency, I baited the trap just like before, but this time I set it. Well, the smart little b*stard somehow made off with the bait without springing the trap. So my next step was to crumble the pop tart crumbs and pack them in the bottom so he would really have to work to get the crumbs out. By this time, he was comfortable enough with the trap that he wasn't afraid to really get inside the cup in an effort to get the bait. That effort was his ultimate undoing. RIP Mickey.

Since then I've caught a half-dozen more using the same method. These things work.

Customer Review: Effective but Gross
Summary: 4 Stars

Due to some construction in the condo beneath ours we have had a recent influx of furry guests. I baited the trap with peanut butter and placed it in my kitchen and caught a critter that night. The loud snap caused my daughter and I to run into the kitchen and we saw the trigger had been released. HOWEVER, we were greeted by the disgusting sight of the mouse's tail and back feet sticking out of the trap. I thought the cover would prevent me from seeing any part of the mouse. Needless to say, I was too grossed out to even CONSIDER re-using the trap as indicated. Although the traps are more expensive than glue traps, they work better. We will just use them as disposable traps. I cannot bring myself to release the dead critter and reuse the trap, especially when I can see his rear end. My only request is that the cover be made just a bit longer to cover the mouse's dead rump.

Customer Review: Excellent Purchase....I HIGHLY Recommend.

I have tried other mouse traps in the past and NONE of the commerical mouse traps I have purchased compares to this brand. These are GREAT. Once we put the peanut butter in the trap, it is almost GUARANTEED that a mouse will be caught. With the Fall and Winter months upon us, mice are starting to seek shelter inside people's home. I just purchased 10 of them (I don't like reuseing them because to me that is just nasty) to stock up on. Also, as another person pointed out in the reviews, the price for these mouse traps is awesome compared to the Targets, Walmarts and hardware stores found in the neighborhoods. I paid almost $6.00 for this very brand of mouse trap at ACO Hardware.
