Tools and Hardware Reviews of D-Con 00027 Ultra Set Covered Snap Mouse Trap

Customer Review: Flimsy
Summary: 1 Stars

It does get points for ease of use, *if* you can get it to work. I bought 4 of these. One of them wouldn't set from the beginning; it seemed to be missing a crucial piece that keeps the lever down. Another one set, but then snapped back 5 minutes later without anything going into it as far as I could tell; then I couldn't set it again. The third trap did catch a mouse, but somehow the mouse got caught in the wrong direction (head facing outward) and got trapped but not killed! Perhaps this was just a very skilled mouse. The fourth trap is still sitting on my counter waiting for a mouse...

Customer Review: Freakin Mice
Summary: 5 Stars

I HATE MICE!!!! The two things in this world that scare me the most are snakes and mice. So, I have to put my support behind these traps b/c they actually catch mice AND you don't have to look at them. They are reusable, as some have done, but they freak me out so much that frankly, I just use them and once one is caught, have someone else throw them away :-) That would be my only complaint about these traps...they are expensive for someone who is not willing to empty the trap and reuse it. Beyond that, though, I've caught 3 mice with these and have never had to see one of the evil creatures in the trap. I recommend the mouse bait that comes in a small plastic squirt bottle you can pick up at your local hardware store. It's a green liquid in a white bottle. That has caught the most mice for me in the shortest amount of time.

Customer Review: Gets the mouse!
Summary: 5 Stars

Too many years of the mouse stealing the cheese in those old traps. This one really works great. I get one every time. The old style ones I have around are just a waste of time. I'm buying more! The mice do chew them up if you leave them un-baited.

Customer Review: Good Cheap Trap, But Catch Mechanism Can Be a Pain
Summary: 4 Stars

PROS:
-You don't touch the mice
-Easy to bait (peanut butter is the best and they can't get it)
-Easy to tell when a mouse is caught or the trap is sprung (either their tail is sticking out or the lever is in the un-sprung position).

CONS:
-The only con is that sometimes the latching mechanism can be a real pain to catch. My concern is that it will wear out too quickly, and the price point is a little high for continued replacement.
-Even though there is a cover children and pets could still possibly hurt themselves with fingers or a dog's tongue in the trap I would recommend the one below if you have either.

I like the traps linked below, they have their problems, require batteries, but are just as affective
Victor Electronic Mouse Trap

Customer Review: Good but cheaply made
Summary: 3 Stars

As easy as the trap was to bait and set (I use a pest control company bait), I caught a mouse in quick time, and then came the problems. The hinged lid on the front of the trap is held together with a very thin strip of molded plastic that broke when I took out the dead mouse. I put it back together and had quite a time getting it set again. Now the front won't stay on and the trap springs without any mouse touching it. The other one still works, but the hinge is already becoming loose.

As much as I like the trap and the ease of setting, there are still some problems with it. The hinge should be stronger plastic and the lever to set the trap more efficient in setting and keeping it set until a mouse triggers it.

Other than the above, I was mostly satisfied with the trap.
