Tools and Hardware Reviews of DELTA 34-183 Tenoning JigCustomer Review: A do-it-yourself kit Summary: 3 Stars
...This tenon jig is very disappointing! It is wonderful if compared to homemade jigs but it is awful when compared to Delta's normal superior products. The hex head base bolts stripped. I used vice grips to get them out and ground flats on the side so I could use a wrench until I replace them with AMERICAN bolts. The machining is awful. When squaring the vertical surface to my saw table my precision square touched at top and bottom but had a 6 thousandths deep low spot through the center. But there is nothing else on the market in this price range. The parts they send are worth ...and you can assemble (after you correct for poor design and maching) a jig that will work well. Miter slot bar fit my old 1967 Craftsman tablesaw well when it wasn't attached to the jig, but when attached it wouldn't slide well. Hand filing helped a little. I am still getting my hands greasy when I use it. I scrubbed it with paint thinner but next time I would throw the whole thing in a bucket of solvent. If you want a tenon jig that works right out of the box don't buy this one. If you don't mind a few hours of fixing problems and assembling a "kit" it is probably worth the price. I love Delta and Delta Rockwell tools, but I prefer to buy old used ones made with American Iron and Yankee know how. Buying this new Chinese Delta "tenon jig kit" reminded me why I buy used American made tools.

Customer Review: A simple tool that works fine. Summary: 4 Stars
Unbelievable reviews this thing got here. Sheesh people, read the directions. Take the time to learn what you're doing with your $75 tool. It squares up fine, with full, reasonably well thought out adjustability. The screws and fasteners are perfectly adequate. Try using a proper bit next time. It snugs right up to the blade on my Bosch 4000, zeroed out, no spacer blocks required. Yes, it requires some adjustment, and some cleaning. It's cast iron, chugging across the Pacific in a shipping container. If it ain't gunky, it's rusty.
So here's the deal. If you need one of these, buy one. Prepare yourself to spend 45 minutes getting it ready to use. Fifteen minutes reading the directions, fifteen minutes disassembling and wiping everything off, and fifteen minutes reassembling and adjusting to your unique table. And then? It'll do precisely what it's designed to do, safely and securely holding stock squarely upright as you pass it through the saw. Nothing more or less.
My one minor complaint is the scale. It's crude to the point of why bother, but realistically, tenoning is a test and fit scenario anyway. Having tested and determined the cut you need, it's replicable. That's your money's worth right there.
Customer Review: A tennoning dream Summary: 5 Stars
This jig puts them all to shame! This jig does exactly what was promised, accurately and quickly. It is extremely easy to set up. It also keeps it's settings. I mean, this thing is right on the money. I build furniture for a living. I needed something that would be easy to use, and also quick and accurate. This beautiful jig is a breeze to use. It requires a table saw that has a T-slot in the mitre gage groove. If you have a Delta 10" table saw or larger, than you already have what is required to use this fine piece of equipment. It comes packed in grease to avoid rust. This is easily cleaned by setting it in a bucket of mineral spirits for about one minute. Pull it out, dry it off, and you're ready to go. This has to be one of the easiest and most accurate pieces of equipment that I have ever used. If you're an experienced woodworker, you will love this jig. The new yankee was right. THIS ONE IS THE BEST. Delta out did themselves on this one. I'd buy another one in a minute.
Customer Review: A useful addition Summary: 4 Stars
Once set up, this jig is quite useful (and not just for tenoning) and lets you set up your cut precisely. However, the set up and adjustment are quite a chore (not only are the instructions complicated, but one of the set screws required an English-measure Allen wrench and did not fit any of the metric ones supplied). I have a Delta contractor's saw, so there were no compatibility problems. For the price, it's a great tool for anyone contemplating making furniture -- as long as you can spare some time to get it ready.
