Tools and Hardware Reviews of DELTA 34-183 Tenoning Jig

Customer Review: An Acceptable Jig, But There is a Better One
Summary: 4 Stars

This model of Delta tenoning jig is designed to offer customers a low-cost alternative to their top-of-the-line heavy-duty tenoning jig (34-172). Sure it isn't built to the standards of the HD version, but it costs about a third less as well. It seems unfair to complain that this product does not meet exacting standards, when such standards are met in a more expensive product. If you can afford the HD version (about 3 times more expensive), it is worth the extra money in my opinion. But if the HD version blows your budget, it is better to buy this modest cost tenoning jig and operate with the safety and convenience that a tenoning jig offers, than to do without a tenoning jig altogether!

On the other hand, I can't disagree with the disappointment of receiving a product that has not been manufactured properly. Delta should demand better from their far-east contract manufacturers.

I rated this 4 stars because it is not a five star product, but I do believe you get what you pay for with this product. It is a fair value, even though a better product is available at a higher price.

Amazon did not offer the Heavy-Duty Tenoning Jig (34-172) a year or so ago, but they responded to the feedback from their customers who asked for the option to buy the product, and now it is available from Amazon. Thanks for listening, Amazon!

Customer Review: Be Careful!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a Delta bench saw and I wanted to tenoning work so by mistake I ordered this jig(34-183). It fits table saws not bench saws! Now I am trying to fit it to my bench saw-don't know whether I'll accomplish this modification.

Customer Review: Complex and not for DeWalt Table Saws
Summary: 3 Stars

This jig is heavy duty and has the capability of assisting you with various types tenons. There isn't much to assemble, but there are a number of "adjustments" that have to be made to prepare to use the jig for the first time. The instructions are adequate, but are at times confusing. Ultimately I was unable to use the jig because it wasn't deep enough to get the verticle fence all the way over to the saw blade on my Dewalt. This would have forced me to have to build up the fence in order to use the jig the way it was intended. The key message is that this is not a universal jig. It may not work in your table saw, depending upon the model you have.

Customer Review: Craftsman owner - beware. Must machine jig to make it work
Summary: 4 Stars

One of the best tools I've bought, but if you're going to put it on a Craftsman table saw, there's some things you'll need to do to make it fit. First, throw away the instructions unless you have an engineering degree! Second, you must disassemble the jig and machine both sides of the miter bar. Disassembly, machining, reassembly and fine-tuning took about 2 hours. Other than that, once this is done and you have it set up, it's very sturdy and well-built. It was worth the time and effort, and I am very pleased with the jig.

Customer Review: Craftsman owners Beware
Summary: 4 Stars

Craftsman owners beware the miter slot bar can be adjusted to 3/4" and above, but Craftsman table saw have a 3/4" slot and uses a .740" miter bar. I was able to machine mine to fit. However if you don't want to hassle with disassembling, machining and reassembling the miter bar, throw the Craftsman in the junk heap and buy a real saw. Delta Unisaw comes to mind.
