Customer Review: If I had to Do It Over
Summary: 2 Stars

.... I'd make my own. The adjustments on this are just too clumsy.

Customer Review: If you want to keep your fingers.....
Summary: 4 Stars

If you do woodworking and want to do mortise-and-tenon joinery on a table saw, you need this jig. A heavy and well put together thing that does what it needs to do. IMO much better than any of the homemade jigs. The down side is that this thing did not fit on my Rigid table saw. I ended up having to file down the rod that fits in the miter slot. In the end it worked OK, but for this kind of money they should have a better option.

Customer Review: Just what the doctor ordered
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this jig over the weekend. After spending a couple hours disassembling and cleaning, I cut 12 tenons in about a half hour. The knob allows you to sneak up on the tenon width. Once it's there, you lock it down and cut them all. All 12 tenons fit perfectly. I did have a few minor complaints. One is that the oil (more like vaseline or ear wax) seeps down into the inards of the jig, so you really should disassemble it to clean it. The manual doesn't really address this although disassembly instructions are there. At least they go to great lengths to prevent rust.

The manual also has some strange ideas about how people should cut tenons. Then the manual encourages you to set the measurement indicator off my 1/8". presumably to miss the blade when it's at 0. I say 0 is 0, don't be dumb and hit your blade.

The other people here who complained about the jig not fitting their table saw are being ridiculous. First off, delta says that this fits any table saw with a standard 3/8" x 3/4" miter slot. If it doesn't fit your saw, your saw is not standard! This generally means delta, jet, powermatic, general, grizzly, etc, contractor's and cabinet saws fit this jig. If you have a bench top saw, this will almost certainly not fit. Even if it doesn't fit, you don't need to grind down the metal runner. People make jigs all the time with hardwood or plastic runners. There's no reason why you have to use delta's screws. Just counter-sink a machine screw into the runner and put a nut on the top side of the cast iron bottom. If there's any question about this fitting your saw, just pull out a ruler!

I was using a dado blade to cut tenons, this is night and day better. I now have an accurage measurment for tenon thickness rather than guessing at the blade height.

Customer Review: MISSING PART
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this item last year (2001) and it arrived missing a bushing. I have called Delta several times and been assured that it would be sent to me. I have yet to receive it. I will never again purchase a Delta product. Their service is horrible.

Customer Review: Medium duty tennon jig
Summary: 4 Stars

The Delta 34-183 tennoning jig is a well machined and fitted tool. The hold down screw clamp is all it should be, superior thread fit, counter wieghted cranking, nice swivel foot. The cast iron body is ground and finished well, easy to set square, but of medium mass & wieght, although Delta has rated it as LIGHT DUTY. If you want the true "Heavy Duty" with a street price of about 4-1/2 times the model #34-183, I suggest you move up to the Delta model #34-172 tennoning jig, wieghing in at almost 36 lbs! HEY Tool Crib! Can you offer us the next step up, Delta model #34-72 Heavy Duty.
