Tools and Hardware Reviews of DEWALT DC527 18-Volt NiCd Fluorescent Area Light, No BatteryCustomer Review: AREA LIGHT SAVES THE DAY Summary: 5 Stars
I have a problem with sump water in my basement. It pumps 5 gal. every 5 min. When we have a power outage I have to get my generator started and hooked up to the house. I have used a flashlight before and is a huge problem trying to fill the gas tank and hold the light. The DEWALT DC527 area light solves this problem. I just set it on the work bench and take care of the generator then restart the unit. This is a well thought out solution to my problem.
Customer Review: As good as corded Summary: 5 Stars
Very good general purpose lighting. It ran for 2+ hours even on my old 18v batteries. Please do note that the lamp goes out quite suddenly at the end!
On a side note, I used it on a patching job under the sink. It worked well while mudding, but not with the sanding and touch up because the white light on the dried patching compound resulted in a total blurr.
Honestly, I only recommend this for the price I paid - $25 last year (gave that one away) and $28 this time. Won't paid over $30 for it.

Customer Review: Better than most Summary: 5 Stars
Having had the opportunity to work with the flexible arm spotlight and owning the adjustable spotlight, I purchased this because "why not."
I think its easier to work with overall and I get more use out of it than the spotlight. Rugged construction, have dropped it on concrete from my workbench and no damage visible. ONLY DOWNSIDE is the bulbs. They are a little pricey, hard to find, and delicate fingers and patience are needed on installation. Glad I ordered two up front, had no intention on breaking the first one but it happens. Just need to make sure bulb is completely seated before applying cover back on it. Amazon is still the cheapest place to buy the replacement bulbs as far as I know.
Customer Review: Burned less than an hour before overheating Summary: 1 Stars
I was using my new light the very next day after receiving it. It worked for less than an hour and went out. I tried to pick it up to put a new battery on it, but it was too hot to touch. The light smelled like it had burned something inside it. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with a Dewalt product and I have many.
