Tools and Hardware Reviews of DEWALT DW618B3 12 Amp 2-1/4 Horsepower Plunge Base and Fixed BaseCustomer Review: Missing parts from kit Summary: 3 Stars
As another reviewer has experienced, there are some kits out there
with missing parts.
My kit also missed both collets, centering guide, wrench, and dust hose adapter!
Update: Got the kit replaced with another one that was OK.
The kit itself I have found to be very good, so it could be close to 5 stars really...
Customer Review: Nice features Summary: 5 Stars
Getting the three bases is great. One for the router table, and then having the plunge and d-handle for hand work is great.
Soft-start makes it easier to control when starting, no more jerking when starting. Variable speed controller another nice feature when working with easily burned woods.
This was the perfect replacement for my DW610. As with most tools, its only as good as the cutting bit/blade/knife. Stay away from the cheapo HSS bits. I stick with carbide tipped, anti-kickback bit with 1/2" shank whenever possible and have always had excellent results.
Customer Review: Nice package Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to replace a craftsman that allowed the bits to change there depth while cutting. This router has not had problems with that. I have only use it lightly as I have only had it a short time. I also purchased the edge guide with it and it looks like a very nice attachment but have not used it yet. The system arrived quickly and in great shape. I mounted it in my router table and gave it a test cutting oak. It has worked very well. Nice soft start, steady power and it throws chips very well.
Customer Review: Nice toy! Summary: 4 Stars
I started shopping for a router by looking at the various Porter Cable models. I wanted a plunge and fixed base. I read too many bad reviews for the PCs, so I expanded my search. This model scored really well and it comes with 3 bases!
This kit comes with the typical hard plastic tool case. Bulky, but it contains everything.
I haven't used the plunge base yet, but the other two work well. It's very simple to move the motor from base to base.
I only have two complaints: The spindle lock button is impossible to get to when the base is in a low position. Once you raise the base and can hold the button, it seems awkward. Functional, but not the best design.
Second - it's difficult to make VERY tiny height changes. It takes some patience.
If I had to buy another router, I'd buy this one.
