Customer Review: An excellent steel - length heft grit

This steel is a very good product. I find that my knives are staying sharp a bit longer, and I go farther between sharpenings with a quick touch up. The length and heft is perfect for high speed finishing. Any shorter and you would run out of steel for your large knives. If you go longer, you will need more dexterity. Extra fine grit is the right finishing grit for my needs (I would stay away from the fine grit unless you have a problem getting your knives sharp). Even on my extra hard Moly knives, this steel is standing up like new. Momma loves having sharp knives that slice through ripe tomatoes with ease. And Pappa likes keeping them up to snuff.

Get your knives back into the shape you bought them in with this 12" Diamond Steel. The fast honing diamond surface has a realigning function with the convenience of traditional butcher's steel. The Extra-Fine diamond (9 micron/1200 mesh) will give your knife and other dull tools a razor sharp edge. This tool has a black, easy to grip, plastic handle with large guard that makes sharpening comfortable and safe. The color-coded ring makes it easy for grit designation and to easily hang. No messy oils needed, you can either sharpen dry or with water. Durable construction will provide years of consistent performance and reliable sharpening for the right angle every time. Assembly level/degree of difficulty: No Assembly Required. Made in AmericaFor professionals and home cooks who are confident in their technique, this sharpening rod is a quick and effective way to hone and gently realign the folded-over edge of a knife blade. The rod's surface is coated with diamond dust, the hardest and most abrasive material for honing knives, requiring only a few strokes with light pressure while holding the blade at a 20-degree angle. The extra-fine grit on this rod is appropriate for frequent touch-ups or as a final honing step to polish an edge that has already been sharpened on a coarser grit. A steel should always be longer than the blade it is honing and, at 12 inches long, this diamond sharpening rod can be used to maintain all kitchen knives. The steel has a sanitary black plastic handle with a guard to protect hands. Its pointed end affixes into a cutting board to hold the rod still for honing and has a rubber cap that safely covers the point when the rod in-between uses. There is a color-coded ring at the end for hanging the steel up and also for quickly identifying the grit size among a collection of DMT sharpeners of varying grits.
