Washing alone will only get rid of 2.4% of dust mites. 99% can be eliminated from bedding by soaking in a solution of Eucalyptus essential oil or Tea Tree oil. (Research work with this eucalyptus oil solution for dust mites was done at the University of Sydney in Australia.)
The Eucalyptus Oil (or Tea Tree oil) Cleaning Recipe:
Soak blankets, sheets or bedding for one full hour in the following solution:
6 Tb Eucalyptus or Tea Tree oil (0.4% concentration)
1.5 Tb liquid laundry detergent
13 gallons of water
Mix the oil and detergent together, add it to the water and then add the bedding. Soak for 1 hour. Then wash the bedding or blankets as normal. There will be no lingering Tea Tree oil smell after rinsing. Heat of the dryer should finish off the rest.

I broke out in a severe rash last year because dust mites had gotten into my clothes that I had stored in our attic (new place). After doing some research on the internet, this was the only remedy that seemed to work to eliminate those little bastids.
I washed everything stored in the attic in De-Mite and so far, I haven't had a single issue.

Mom got ashma from dust mites because she could no longer vacumn carpet in bedroom. I got this and she rarely needed her inhaler again. I am using myself and always will, just in case. I can't tell any differance but i don't have health problems. Guess it works.Customer Review: expensive!

I've been using this product for several years now. It seems to be the best laundry additive to remove dust mites. I've tried several others, but this one works best. Especially since you can use it with cold water. Yes it is pricey, but I look at it as medication. When the time comes to order it, I bite the bullet and try not to think of it. I found out that ordering the larger bottle is more economical, despite the bigger expense upfront.
