Tools and Hardware Reviews of Desolv It Citrus Solution 12 ozCustomer Review: Makes Quick Work of Sticky Stuff. Summary: 4 Stars
De-Solv-It by Orange Sol removes sticky-icky stuff from surfaces, hair, skin, and clothing with relative ease. Gooey residue that would otherwise take a lot of time and elbow grease, if it could be removed at all, disappears with De-Solv-It and minimal scrubbing. I use it mostly to remove stickers, but it's also great for sap, gum, and any kind of adhesive residue. It works well to remove stickers from books and book jackets as long as the jacket is slick, not porous. I spray a little De-Solv-It on a paper towel and apply to the sticky scum. I wouldn't spray De-Solv-It directly onto paper, even if its coated, because De-Solv-It is oily and will stain paper if it's allowed to soak in.
Orange Solvent, the predecessor to De-Solv-It, was created in 1932 by Edwin L. Ackerman after he accidentally discovered that orange juice would remove stubborn dental impression cement from his hands. Thus citrus-based cleaners were born. Orange Sol claims that De-Solv-It works well on most kinds of stains, not just sticky stuff, including protein stains, grease, and food. I haven't tried it on food stains, as my normal laundry spot spray works on those. Ouixtar's (Amway) Tri-Zyme is hands-down the best thing on protein stains, including very old stains. De-Solv-It probably is good on grease. It was popular with people who worked on the Exxon Valdese oil spill in Alaska.
De-Solv-It is unfortunately no longer available in a squirt bottle. It comes in a 12.6 fl.oz. spray bottle. This is fine for those using it to treat laundry or large areas, but I have to spray it onto a paper towel to use it on a small area. And I really don't want this stuff to spray all over the place. There is a warning on the back of the bottle against using it on carpet backing, acrylic, some plastics, uncoated paper, suede & leather, silk, elastic, and khaki-colored fabric. But just a droplet of De-Solv-It will ruin modern furniture finishes, the kind that are applied by the manufacturer in either matte or glossy. So keep the spray bottle clear of any furnishings or wood decor that has a permanent finish.
De-Solv-It is biodegradable and emits no toxic fumes, so this is an environmentally-friendly and human-friendly product. It has a light citrus scent. Essential citrus oils, vitamin E, aloe vera, and organic wetting agents are among the ingredients. It contains no water, so this is not a diluted cleaner, and there is never any need to dilute it. You can set the nozzle to "spray", "stream", or "off". The packaging and inadequate warnings are my only reservation. Keeping that in mind, De-Solv-It makes quick work of sticky stuff.

Items paid for and never received. Sent two reply emails and have not heard a return from Ace Hardware. Made a big mistake using this company.
Customer Review: Not as good as described Summary: 1 Stars
This product isn't really as good as described. If you want to remove sticky labels, it will take a while to soak and then scrape off, repeating to get the label off completely. Not an instant fix. Years ago, De-Solv-It was a great product which even removed gum. Perhaps they have changed it. Would not recommend.
Customer Review: One spray bottle has lasted me 10 years Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using this since 1998 when I bought it in the big membership store. I buy bulk things like cashews and they come in really nice plastic tub containers which are great for storage afterwards. Desolvit will remove the labels very easily and makes the tub container look new without a label on it. I peel off the thin coated toping of the label which usually comes off easily, and spray on the underneath absorbant paper label still attached that has the stickiness--impossible to remove without Desolvit! Within 30 minutes or so it peels off easily and washes any residue easily off with soap and water. After all these years I finally need more. The big store doesn't have it anymore, so I'm glad to find it on Amazon for an excellent price!
Customer Review: Removed greasy stain from shirt even after being in dryer! Summary: 5 Stars
This week I was doing laundry in a public laundry mat while on vacation. I washed a shirt I had treated with another product due to a spill while eating out. I didn't realize I had missed a fairly large spot toward the botton of the shirt until I was folding it from the dryer. Well the treated spot came out fine but I knew the shirt was ruined when I saw the spot that hadn't been treated. I have NEVER had ANY product remove an oily or greasy spot once the item has been through a clothes dryer.
I stated as much to another lady doing laundry. She asked me if I had ever used De-solv-it and I told her I had never heard of it. She had a bottle with her and was kind enough to let me treat the spot I missed. She said it would come clean even after being through the dryer if I treated it with the De-solv-it. I was skeptical, but I let the treatment work about an hour and ran it back through the washer/dryer and ALL OF THE GREASE I had failed to treat the first time came out. No discoloration whatsoever - and there was no trace the shirt had even had a stain. Made a believer out of me! Looked at Wal-mart but couldn't find it, so came home and found it here at Amazon. Ordered 2 bottles. This will save me a fortune in clothes so it is well worth the price. No doubt about it - I will always keep this product on hand.
Will be great for clothes of babies, elderly, mechanics, special items that get stained and just for everyday spills..... Wish I had known of this product years ago!
(The shirt stain was from food grease so it may need a longer treatment time than one hour for diesel grease, ink, blood stain, etc.)
