My mom has an old Dirt Devil 'Broom Vac' that's built for bare floors but can do carpets too - it's basically a miniature (bagged) vacuum that's very versatile and easy to handle too.
After borrowing it I decided to get one for myself. I poked around quite a bit before discovering the 'Dynamite' to be the only Dirt Devil model currently made that matches both the older model's size and functionality.
Of course, when I found the Dynamite, Amazon's price beat everyone else's (but that's not much of a surprise ;).
Wow.
This thing is truly a Monster. It has suction (on carpets OR bare floors) like nothing I've ever seen before. On a bare floor you can watch stuff that's 8 to 10 inches away creeping toward the powerhead when the unit's turned on.
It's easy to set up, easy to use, and does an AWESOME job. It's loud too, but then, I've never heard a vacuum cleaner that wasn't. =P
