Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dremel 1100-01 Stylus 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Rotary Tool with Docking Station

Customer Review: Very handy!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one neat "LITTLE" tool. My first pleasant surprise was how smoothly it runs at top speed. If you are into doing super-miniature work, you will love this tool. I have a TurboCarver that spins 1/16 inch shafts at 400,000 rpm that really isn't much smoother than this Dremel. The ultra high speed TurboCarver is necessary for the very small and delicate detail work (like etching glass), but this Dremel really does a fine and faster job in places where the soft touch is not quite so necessary. I expect it to save much wear and tear on the TurboCarver which costs over ten times as much.

Somebody commented on the use of collets by Dremel tools. I am in fundamental agreement with that person if your application requires quick change to tools with different shaft sizes, the 3-jaw chuck is the way to go. But, if you are using a variety of 1/16 inch tools at maximum speed the collet is a virtual necessity.

Customer Review: Worked Great--Once
Summary: 1 Stars

It worked fine--once. While trying to remove the brush tool, the collet
nut was so tight it wouldn't come off. But the shaft lock button did, and a small spring popped out to God knows where. So after using this tool just once, it sits here, with the brush tool in place, worthless unless I want to brush something else. Sitting next to it is the 150 tool
"All-Purpose Accessory Kit." This product, made in Mexico, should be declared an illegal immigrant and kicked back over the border.

Customer Review: Works pretty good. Still finding new uses
Summary: 4 Stars

So we have had this for 2 years. Occasional heavy use, but only once a month or so. Used it for home improvement, believe it or not, in the absence of anything else but a screwdriver.

It did alright cutting thick Plexiglas, although it did not provide quite the even cut I had hoped for. but then, it wasn't meant for that, so I cut it some slack.

It did pretty good drilling holes so that I could put up towel bars, a medicine cabinet, even the shower bar. It had a very difficult time when we were removing an old towel bar, where the screw had been stripped and had to be drilled out. None of the attachments seem to do very well with metal. But I got it done.

It was great when we broke the tiny plastic control knob for a remote control helicopter, and we had to drill a hole to put a piece of paperclip in to reinforce the glue.

Most recently, I have discovered it does very well at removing heel callous, with the sander bit.

Downsides: it can overheat. It has a hard time with anything metal. Of late, it likes to be seated "just right" in the charger, or it wont charge.

Anyhow.. Nice little tool.

Customer Review: another gift.....

and he absolutely loves it. he says it is very easy to use and he has used it quite a bit since i gave it to him this christmas. good product according to "him".

Customer Review: excellent design for medium use
Summary: 4 Stars

I used this tool for for cutting metal for jewelry that I make - it is very well designed and very comfortable to use. The charger stand is attractive, keeps everything organized and handy, and grips a work table well - works like a cordless phone charger, just drop it in.

After 30 minutes of continuous use, the device starts to heat up to the point of being uncomfortable to the touch. After about an hour of use, the battery was dead. This is perfectly fine if you are doing light or medium projects, but for heavier users like me - back to the cord we go...
