Customer Review: Dremel LION cordless Summary: 5 Stars
I have been very happy with the tool. Though I never had one of the previous models, I am glad I waited to get it with a cordless and LION battery vrs Nicad battery. It has worked flawlessly so far.
There are several attachments that have come with it but I have not had the opportunity to diversify and use them yet. I got this mainly to start helping me remove grout between tiles. It works fine with this task though I realize it is going to take a lot of time since I am removing the grout for our entire kitchen floor.
I would highly recommend this tool and consider it a valuable addition to my tools. I am also doing some baseboard replacements in my house and intend to use the Dremel to help match the ends of the baseboards too. From reading the guide that comes with the tool, there seems to be a number of projects I will be able to use this tool for in the days ahead.
The attachments are a bit pricey though as one add'l attachment cost me $15 at Home Depot. It might be worth looking for a one off attachment set that would give a number of the specialized attachments needed.
Customer Review: Dremel Li-ion 10.8 Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this model about 1 year ago. I previously owned the comparable but corded Black & Decker model. I probably should have stayed with the Black & Decker brand because the previous model lasted at least 10 years. Back to the dremel. It bogs down very easily. Any load will shut it down, and that means spinning the power wheel back to 0 and back up to speed. Once this happens 3-4 times, you get a little fed up with it. Over the past year, it has slowly been more difficult to start. I took it out this morning to use and it won't work at all, with a fully charged battery. What you can do with a corded Black & Decker model is impossible to accomplish with this one. I got it for the portability, but it wasn't worth it. Sometimes it's best to stick with what you know works. Yes, I could probably get the functioning fixed for a fee, but it will still bog down. It might be good for shining jewelry, but it doesn't work for engraving, it bogs down too much. All in all, a pretty useless tool.
Customer Review: Dremel Lithium Ion Rotary Tool-Model 800 Summary: 5 Stars
Finally, a cordless rotary tool that holds it charge while being stored. Now I don't have to worry about charging my tool's batteries the night before I need it for a project. And the Lithium Ion batteries are environmentally safe--unlike Nickel Cadmium batteries. This tool is surprisingly smooth, yet seems as powerful as my old standby corded Dremel Model 395. At 35,000 RPM it is the fastest cordless rotary tool I've seen on the market. I like the sleek, ergonomic design. Based upon my previous experience with Dremel tools, I expect this tool to be trouble free for a long time.
Customer Review: Dremel Quality????? Summary: 2 Stars
I have had Dremel tools for years. Still have a 115 volt drill that has worked fine for years.
I purchased the Dremel 8000-01 because I could see it as a very useful tool. Well, the first one I had changed speeds on its own. I would set the speed I wanted, then without warning the speed would slow down or speed up, depending on the tools mood (I guess). Sometimes it did work just fine. So I returned the unit and received a replacement.
The second unit is really, really loud (a nasty high pitched whine) and it vibrates really bad a low speeds.
Needless to say it's going to be returned.
It's sad the Dremel quality control as fallen to this level. Because if the tool functioned properly I would be quite happy with it.
Should I try a third one?
