Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duck Brand 1299529 Indoor 5-Window Shrink Film Kit, 62-by-210-InchCustomer Review: Hole-y Dissapointing Summary: 3 Stars
I've made a point of only buying 3M window-covering kits for years now, due to some dissapointments about 5 years back, but decided to give Duck a try, as I've liked a number of their roll-tape products, they were cheaper than 3M, and I needed to cover a more than 5 windows, so I would be able to compare the two produts. Sadly, Duck has NOT been nearly as good . . . the window plastic is thinner than the 3M material, and the tape does not stick as well . . . I've been forced to check the windows over and over again, to re-stick where the sides may have blown out from a gust of wind outside. Next year, I'm sticking with 3M for all of the windows I cover.
Customer Review: Huge difference. Summary: 5 Stars
We received the kit in the mail this afternoon, earlier than expected. My boyfriend tried it on one particularly drafty window in our bedroom and we were so amazed by the difference he is running around as I am typing doing the rest of our windows. At first glance you can't even tell it's on the window, and when you put your hand up to it, there is zero cold and all drafts are gone. I bought mounting tape, but I didn't need it. He's using the double sided tape that came with it and it seems to be working great.
Customer Review: I guess I lack the essential skills to make this work. Summary: 1 Stars
I tried to use this today - I got the double sided tape up onto my window and then was faced with the problem of how exactly to cut the giant piece of plastic down to just the right side. I wasted a good quarter of it trying to get it right. When I finally got a piece that I thought might be ok, I attempted to stick it up onto the double sided tape. But when I released the plastic, the tape would not hold the weight of it (it is very light), and the plastic just fell off. I read the instructions. I followed them. I gave up. At least this failed experiment cost me less than ten bucks.
Customer Review: It Works Summary: 3 Stars
It works as far as I can tell. It is thinner than the Frost King brand that I have used the past several years. I do not know if that is good, bad, or doesn't matter yet though.
Customer Review: It worked for a few days then....... Summary: 3 Stars
well. Like many others, I read a lot of the reviews on here and decided to take a chance since it was only $9.
So, I got $9 worth. If you are fairly smart about things then you should have no problems putting these things up on your windows.
I read a few people who had difficulty putting these up cause they unraveled the entire roll of plastic (length and height) then cut.
You should roll it out to the width of your window then pull the plastic apart to fit the window.
well, I followed the instructions with the tape and hair dryer. It stayed in place for about a week then the adhesive tape started to peel away from the windows.
I did clean the area with the provided alcohol pads first. It does block the cold draft I was getting for about a week. Then the adhesive tape started to come off.
My solution was to get some painter's tape and apply the tape on top of the plastic to keep them in place. it is unsightly but it does get the job done until the weather warms up.
so, for $9 I got what I paid for, I think I will try a different brand next year. Hope this helps somebody.
