Tools and Hardware Reviews of Emergency Fire StarterCustomer Review: Fine. Summary: 3 Stars
Got this product expecting it to come ready, but you have to scratch off the surface of the flint to get it to work, and the magnesium is a bit hard to get off. I bought a similar product for less that was higher quality.

I have the Walmart(Coleman) version of the magnesium fire starter. Its great and reliable, however if you use the non-serrated edge of the striker on the flint and the serrated edge against your finger it will eventually begin to cut into you will be very irritating. I recomend a smaller blade that you have designated for this purpose as the blade of the knife will start to chip and wear down. hope this helps.

Harder to use than I thought. I think more magnesium shavings need to be made for the flint to actually spark up a fire. Figured it out after almost demolishing the entire flint, may have to get another ha. Better to have than not to have, but please people, practice if you do not know how to use already. Practice with any type of survival/outdoor gear!

Seems to be a good little item, haven't used it yet, since I got it for camping next year.

Does not start a fire no matter what you do. Not good in an emergency. Waste of money.
