Tools and Hardware Reviews of Emergency Fire StarterCustomer Review: For under 5 bucks, you can't go wrong. Summary: 5 Stars
This product works exactly as advertised. It's a magnesium bar, a piece of flint, and a striker/scraper tool. That's all it is, and that's all you need to get a fire going. It takes some patience to get a proper sized pile of shavings, but if you get a good little pile and have some dry tinder and kindling nearby, you WILL be able to make a fire. It's pretty much dummy-proof. Plus you can use the flint like a firesteel if you have other tinder on hand. It works great with cotton balls or dryer lint without even needing any magnesium.
Customer Review: Get what you pay for Summary: 3 Stars
And at the cost of this unit you only get the glued strip on the side. What your primarly looking at is the cut saw blade a square handle and the little black strip on the side is what you need.
There nice to have for the cost but I recommend the better ones that are a full magnesium stick and not that small stick on the side.
Customer Review: Good Fire starter. Summary: 5 Stars
Threw it in my 72 hour kit. Hope i never have to use it, but i tested it, and it works great.
Customer Review: Good starter Summary: 5 Stars
Buy in bulk if you are thinking long term. I bought 3 and wish: 1) they either made larger versions or 2) I could afford more.
Mg makes for fast fires.
Customer Review: Good to have just incase. Summary: 5 Stars
Nice addition to my emergency/survival gear. Yes a lighter or matches would do the trick but this will start a fire well after you run out of lighter fluid or matches. Oh and it's water proof.
Inexpensive too.
