Tools and Hardware Reviews of Emissive Energy Corp. X1MT-WT White LED Flashlight

Customer Review: GREAT bedside light
Summary: 5 Stars

This is getting a bity over-priced because the LED if the older generation and isn't as bright. On the other hand, this is THE flashlight for a run to the potty or to investigate a "bump" in the night. The other LED lights out are far brighter, but when your eyes are completely night-adjusted, they're painfully bright. This is not as bright and a bit more tolerable. The size is also very handy: about the length of 2 AA's (takes 1) and only a bit wider in diameter. it's an excellent travel light. As far as "mini" flashlights go, this may not be the brightest (in fact, it's near the bottom) but it's the best thing going for a nightstand/travel flashlight...

Customer Review: Great gift
Summary: 5 Stars

I gave this as a gift and the guy loves everything about it. The size, the appearance, and the brightness for such a small light. He flashed the light in my eye and it was pretty bright. He's lucky I'm not the type to take the present back and keep it for myself... because I would have for that stunt ;)

Customer Review: Inova X1 2nd Generation Nichia Flashlight Review
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm an enthusiast about flashlights and coolers. There are several things that I look for when considering a flashlight. 1) Only flashlights that use AA or AAA batteries are considered. Those two batteries are the cheapest and most readily available batteries. Plus, in an emergency, I do not want to be scrambling for different types of batteries (C, D, 9V, CR123, or any other type of specialized battery). 2) The design has to be shock resistant and waterproof. 3) The longest battery life in proportion to the output. I would like an efficient flashlight. 4) Best combination of durability in ratio to size and weight. This is a review of the Inova X1 that I actually bought around 2005 (Actually before that as I also had the 1st generation XI with a tight spotlight in 2003). Since that time, there have been great advances in LED technology, such as the more efficient and higher output CREE LED. However, this was my favorite light until I was introduced to CREE LED technology in the Fenix LD20. If you want the details, please read on. If you want the short of it, skip to the conclusion.

Brightness: The Inova X1 has one brightness setting at approximately 10 lumens from a Nichia LED. The light appears to last about 10 hours until you notice the light dimming. The light is a flood-type of light, which would be useful for perhaps reading in the dark and looking around in the immediate area. This light will not be useful in lighting up areas brightly or at a distance.

Color of the light: Many Nichia type LEDs has cool "bluish" color temperatures. The Inova X1 is no different. The output is definitely a cool blue.

Beam: The beam was brighter in the middle with a very smooth taper to the outer edge of the circle-like beam. There appear to be only minor inconsistencies in the light overall, but otherwise provides very consistent illumination in an almost perfect circle that at five feet away illuminates about a ten foot diameter. Most other flashlights will have dark circular rings and not be in a nice circle.

Throw: The throw of the light is poor. Do not expect to get adequate illumination more than ten yards. This is typical to Nichia LED technology.

Efficiency: The Inova X1 is fairly efficient with approximately 10 lumens lasting about 10 hours with adequate power on one AA battery. However, the CREE LED technology appears to be the most efficient lighting. The Fenix LD20 has a low setting of 9 lumens for 70 hours of use. Technology has come a long way.

Build: The most attractive aspect of the Inova X1 flashlight is the build quality. The light has amazing visual appeal, is symmetrical, aligned very well, is extremely compact, smooth, and build appears to be of excellent quality. Furthermore, the flashlight takes only one AA battery, which is easy to replace as this light has a simple set up. In my opinion, the Inova X1 is the most visually appealing flashlight that I have come across. In addition, the flashlight has the industry standard aircraft grade aluminum construction, anodized protection, o-rings for water resistance, and is supposed to be crush proof. One thing to note is that there is no beam adjustment, which does not appear to be necessary as the output is meant to be a flood light with a smooth and even beam. A second thing to note is that the light is not able to stand as a candle, which is not practical given the flashlights limited output.

Conclusion: Overall, the Inova X1 2nd generation Nichia LED flashlight is an aesthetically appealing, well-built, low power flood-style flashlight that is adequate for reading or illuminating a small area. I have nothing bad to report about the light but admit that I would have rated this flashlight much higher just five years ago. Today, more efficient and powerful CREE LED technology make flashlights more practical with multiple output settings, powerful outputs, far reaching illumination in terms of throw, and all of this using one or two AA batteries. Thus, the rating for the Inova X1 in terms in value is much lower. I rate the Inova X1 2nd generation Nichia LED flashlight a 3.0 out of 5.0. (Note: Inova X1 has a 3rd generation with a Luxeon LED. Though it is brighter, I did not bother with that version because the run time of 2 hours is inefficient. The 1st generation had a lens that produced a very small spotlight, which was a cool idea but not very practical in use.)

Customer Review: Love this flashlight
Summary: 5 Stars

I love the Inova X1! My son introduced me to this light after his first deployment. Some years later - this is my fourth - as I seem to lose them after a year or two. (never had one break or even had a bulb fail) I faithfully carry this light in my pocket. It comes out when I need a more light for safety or clarity. It's especially useful in the restaurant to read the menu. I've tried other lights - but they were either too big, too small, or not well made. Many a time, I've held one of these in my mouth while I used both hands to make some repair or adjustment. I also recall numerous times when my son and I both had one in our mouth while we worked on the boat after dark. This flashlight is just right - and it's extremely well made. The satin finish is a pleasure to touch. If you need a flashlight to see across the lake - get something else - and also figure out where you're gonna carry it. If you need a constant companion that can take whatever comes along - I don't think you can beat this one.

Customer Review: Muy buena.......Podria ser mejor.
