Tools and Hardware Reviews of Energizer 3 LED Headlight

Customer Review: Excellent and practical and durable
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this headlamp for over a year and love it. I paddle canoes and kayaks and do some overnight camping in remote areas. I have found my Energizer headlamp to be extremely useful with plenty of light. I've not yet had to replace the batteries. I use the red for reading maps and use both colors for finding my way through streams and swamps at night and for camping. This past Friday night I accidentally slipped on a muddy bank and ended up in the river about waist deep. I lost my headlamp in the bottom of the river just as we were starting a night paddle. We were gone about 2 hours and when we returned one of the group saw a red glow in the murky depths. It was my headlamp still burning. I found it easily, used it the remainder of the weekend and it's still working fine. This light is not advertised as waterproof, but it's as close to waterproof as you can get. I took it apart, let it dry out, and it's still as good as new. I highly recommend it and will buy another.... if I ever need to.

Customer Review: Excellent for the Price
Summary: 4 Stars

I use this light for increasing illumination in a dark space, like inside a chainsaw fuel tank or down an herbicide applicator tube. I also use it for predawn work either to briefly light an area or to keep a light on an area I am weeding. The white light is nice and bright. Ability to use standard rechargeable batteries is good and the red light is useful when I don't want to attract too much attention. A top of the head strap would keep it from slipping and make it 5 stars but a light with a top of the head strap wasn't in the budget.

Customer Review: FOR GRANDSON IN IRAQ BY SPECIAL REQUEST
Summary: 5 Stars

MY GRANDSON IN THE ARMY ASKED ME FOR ONE OF THESE, AND I WAS PLEASED TO INCLUDE IT IN A BOX TO HIM. HE WAS MOST GRATEFUL. SAID NIGHTS THERE ARE EXTREMELY DARK.

Customer Review: Fantastically Useful and Fun
Summary: 5 Stars

When we were heading off to Hawaii, I did a lot of research on places to go and things to see. One of the coolest things you could do was to walk down an actual lava tube, where lava had gone while it was hot. Even better, the second half of the tube was not lit and most people didn't go there. You could be pretty much completely by yourself, as long as you had a flashlight with you.

My boyfriend immediately began researching great flashlights and this one sprang out. It is super bright with very low battery usage. You can run it for up to 50 hours. It easily straps on your forehead so your hands stay free. It has various light settings plus a red-light setting which is great for dark-vision situations. I.e. if you have red lights on, it doesn't affect your night vision as badly as white lights do. You see this often in submarine movies and such.

So we got it and brought it along. It was PERFECT! Literally nobody else out of the giant mobs in the main lava tube area had flashlights to go into the dark section of the tube. We were in there all alone! The headlight lamp lit up the perfect blackness very clearly. In fact I had only a "regular flashlight" with me and got nervous by the dark at some point - but my boyfriend with his bright light had great vision and was able to keep going.

When we were coming back to the main lava tube area, many people asked us about our flashlights and the tube. So if we had been carrying multiple of these things, we could easily have sold them all :)

Now, this would have been great enough as it was. But later in the cruise, the ship lost power at 3:30am. The room was pitch black. We reached for the flashlight and POOF, we had great light in the room! My boyfriend went down to the front desk, and every person he passed wanted to know where he'd gotten the flashlight from. It made navigating the ship very easy. Yes, there was emergency lighting, but having that extra light really was quite helpful.

So just on one trip alone, this flashlight was extremely helpful. It's small, it's easy to carry, and I really think it's a must carry on any trip you take! Never mind to have around the house :)

Customer Review: Good bright light at a great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered one of these headlamps to keep in the car for any night-time emergencies. For the price, this light is really great and worth a 5 star rating in my opinion, but it's not as fancy as some. I've also got a Black Diamond Helion LED Headlamp (more than 3 times the cost of this unit) that I have used almost daily for the last 2 or 3 years, and am making some comparisons to that.

This light is surprisingly bright, with the beam being a somewhat defined medium-diameter spot. It's not as bright as those lights with the new Luxeon LEDs but it's very bright and won't wear down the batteries as fast as a Luxeon LED. The projected beam is not totally even in color on my unit, with a slight yellower cast projected near the middle of the spot and a blue-purple tint at the outer edges of the projected spot. This may not be a big deal for some, and may be due to the magnifiers used on the lens.

While wearing the lamp, I noticed some reflection of light off of my eyebrows. They're not huge eyebrows or anything, but it was a slight distraction and is due to the lens projecting out slightly from the front of the light.

The headband is adequate and can be snugged-up nicely, and would fit a child too. The single band is not as secure feeling as those lights with an additional band that goes over the top of one's head, and may be prone to sliding down with a lot of vertical body motion like running, etc.

The pivoting lamp housing makes it easy to adjust the vertical beam position, with its smooth movement, swinging down and away from the battery compartment. Some other lights ratchet up and down in their adjustment.

The red LED seems handy for night vision and has even red lighting (not as much of a spot as the white). The housing seems consistent with price (plastic and inexpensive feeling), with a snap-off battery cover which feels a bit fragile if one were not careful with it. But over-all, this seems to be a great deal for the price.
