Tools and Hardware Reviews of Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier, Oak BurlCustomer Review: Don't buy this Summary: 1 Stars
I bought my Essick H12 400 13 months ago (Jan 07). It would not turn on after assembly. They had to send me a new and 'improved' replacement 'float rod' which turns the fan off when water is too low. The replacement part did not work either---an obvious design error, the stick was too heavy for the small piece of styrofoam to float and turn the motor on. I had to reach under the fan and push the rod up after filling. After 13 months the motor started overheating and stopping. I could hold my hand 4" above the motor and feel the heat. Threw it out. My old Sears humidifier ran for over 10 years---this one barely one.

I thought this was a steal for the money. House is just over 1900 square feet and this Essick humidifier is doing a great job keeping it at 50% or so humidity over this tough winter. Low speed is very quiet and that's what we run it at. High speed really puts the moisture into the air if you're trying to play catch-up. Yes, the water container is a bit hard/tricky to fill, but once you get your own system doing it, it's just part of the deal. Very happy I picked this humidifier.

I have really appreciated this humidifier. It works great & is so easy to fill. No mess and also no white dust. I've noticed a great improvement in the condition of my skin and hair, and I no longer get shocks whenever I pet our dog. Highly recommend. This is an update, This humidifier worked great for a couple of months, then the motor went out, and to replace it wasn't worth the $$, at least to me. I have purchased a different brand, Lasko, which I am now on my 2nd season using. Very, very pleased with the new one.

Looks attractive. I only have a 1500 square foot house so it works well, as it is made for up to 2500 square feet. What surprised me was the glug , glug sound as water was being released from the bottle into the unit. First night I closed my bedroom door because it was annoying. Either I got used to the sound or it got quieter because it doesn't seem to bother me anymore. Even my cat isn't jumping now every time she hears it. Yes, the sound is loud on fan No. 2 and 3, but I only use the number 1 setting and it is quiet. Also the hose that comes with the unit was no help to me as I have a new faucet and it has the pull down spray on it. There is no way the hose could attach to the faucet. Thankfully, my faucet is high enough and my sink deep enough that I can get the huge bottle filled (at an angle) right in the sink with the pull down nozzle. I did order an extra Wick to have as a backup. Also next time I place an order to Amazon, I will buy a few extra of the bottle cap/covers. Would I buy this unit again, yes I would because I think even if it only lasted a few years, it was worth the $120 for the comfort of not having a dry house.
Customer Review: Excellent Home Humidifier Summary: 5 Stars
We needed a full-house humidifier, and this does the job nicely. It is easy to fill, and very quiet on the lower settings. When you crank it up, it does get noisier, but when it's really dry it certainly works faster. We have it in the hall next to our bedroom, and it doesn't bother us at all. One thing that may get a bit confusing is that this model does not have a 5 gallon basin. Rather, it has a 2.5 gallon basin and a 2.5 gallon removable tank. It comes with a hose that fits snugly over a faucet - which I love because I can stand the tank on the floor, feed the hose into it, and fill it hands-free. Nice.
