Tools and Hardware Reviews of Estwing E24A Sportsman's Hatchet Metal HandleCustomer Review: Don't lose your head! Summary: 4 Stars
Here is the BOTTOM LINE! I would highly recommend this hatchet to others.
I bought this hatchet to keep in my truck as I do a fair amount of camping and hiking. It came sharp, and it holds an edge nicely. One big plus is that the head will never come loose and the handle shouldn't break while using it. I am sure that other outdoorsmen and women will tell you that nothing is more upsetting than when a handle breaks in the middle of the job. I don't baby this hatchet at all and it really is a workhorse. I knew that I could count on Estwing to make a quality hatchet!

It's a well made hatchet and looks good too. The only issue I had with the product was that there were burs on the blade and I guess that for the money the product should have been perfect. Other than that it is performing like you would expect a hatchet to.
Customer Review: Estwing E24A Sportsmans Hatchet Metal Handle Summary: 5 Stars
When I saw this hatchet I thought that looks like the same quality as my old Case fixed blade hunting knife. I ordered it and sure enough it is the same kind of quality workmanship as Case. The handle and blade are one piece and the handle is leather wrapped. I have had the Case knife for approximately forty plus years and it still is a great hunting knife. This hatchet is very well made and works great for chopping small stuff. It comes with a nice snap on leather sheath for the blade. It could be used for tree chopping but I would recommend an axe for that large of a project. If you like the axe be sure to get Ka-Bar Leather Handled Marine Hunter Knife.

Sharp and strong, ideal for camping (ie Boyscouts). Very rugged, totally satisfied with this purchase - and I expect a lot from a hatchet.
Customer Review: Excellent Purchase Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased the Estwing E24A Sportsman's hatchet, and was decently impressed. The body is forged from a single piece of steel. The leather work on the handle is of course a nice touch. I have purchased the entire line of Gerber hatchet, and while although I was pleased with them, the single black PVC handle left something to be desired. I saw this hatchet and was immediately reminded of my father's hatchet from when I was a kid. I'll admit I bought the hatchet based primarily on looks, however upon opening the box I was fairly impressed. The weight is enough to where if you know what you're doing, your arm should nit tire out from continuous use. Unfortunately the edge has a beveled shape to it. However, I did not have access to a grinder and I found a little time with a file rectified the problem, and it is now razor sharp. I've noticed numerous complaints to the finish of the hatchet, minor parts where the handle and steel meet do look a but rough, however it is a hatchet.
When I finally took it out I was definitely impressed with the product. The hatchet allowed me to cut down dead tree limbs, shave off the excess limbs, and cut everything into fire sized pieces of wood in no time. I found the edge held up as well as could be expected. Nothing outstanding, however nothing bad. Overall I would recommend this hatchet to someone for camping trips, maybe no long range hiking to do the weight, but definitely for overnight trips.
