Customer Review: Cleans well, but clogs frequently

I have owned this vacuum for 1 year. Although it cleans fine, I definitely would not buy it again.
The bags are a little smaller than average, they fill up quickly and then the internal hose starts to clog. You don't notice it is clogged until the clear plastic hose on the outside starts to get clogged. At that pt, it's a messy deal to unravel b/c it is not easy to take the vacuum apart. There are about 4 different parts to disassemble to get to the root of the problem. Usually you have to pull out the Directions b/c it is not obvious what to take apart, and it's even hard to remember what you did the previous time. Multiple family members have used my vacuum and had the same frustration.

We love our new vacuum--the nap on the carpet now stands straight up and my brother-in-law asked us if we replaced our carpets! :) Also, it sucked up tons of dirt that our old Hoover left behind--the bag was full after only a couple of weeks of use. In addition, its suction is so strong that it sometimes seems to propel itself during use. I highly recommend this vacuum for its superior cleaning and ease of use!Customer Review: Consumer Reports rates it as a Best Buy!

So glad I read Consumer Reports reviews and other Amazon customer reviews before I purchased another vacuum. It came with an extra six bags and one extra belt. One reviewer said she had never seen such a flimsy vacuum belt which is true, but it seems to do the job! A vacuum repairman once told me that vacuum belts should be changed every 3 to 6 months instead of waiting until they break.
I love this vacuum because it has such power, with the necessary attachments, and it is very quiet compared to other vacuums I have owned with much less power.
The Eureka 3870DT is a great buy. The bags are easy to change and the instructions are easy to understand...so save those instructions!
One warning to those with any physical limitations or lots of stairs! This is a very heavy vacuum! Another style of vacuum would perhaps be a better choice.
Go for it if you want a quiet and powerful vacuum that performs well.

Bought this vacume based on Consumer Reports recommendation. It is a very good vacume overall, great suction, tools mounted on unit makes it very convenient. Only minor negative comments: foot button to unlock handle for vacuming floors is very hard to press (especially with bare feet), switch to change from bare floor to carpet is also very stiff to operate. Very good unit at a reasonable price!Customer Review: Cumbersome

This would be a great vacuum if your house is covered in carpet and is rather large. It is not so great if you have a smaller space with lots of nooks and crannies to get into. This vacuum is rather heavy for cleaning around hardwood floors and underneath beds and such. I thought I could use it as an all-purpose vacuum. It does not work well for throw rugs either. It almost ate one of mine. The attachments are awkward because you have to pull the vacuum along with you, and it being upright and heavy, makes its ease of use not very easy. The wand isn't very long either. I couldn't even clean under my bed properly.
