I just got this vacuum and I vacuumed the living room, kitchen, hallway and part of another room and then checked the bag. It's almost half full. I have several cats so it's mostly their hair. I was amazed. My old vacuum is a little over 4 amps. It definitely wasn't keeping the carpets clean. This vacuum is very heavy. I have been used to pushing a much lighter cannister vacuum so it's just an adjustment for me - I see it as a workout at the same time! If it is too hard to pull back, you should try adjusting the height. I am not sure how well it is going to do on the linoleum and hard wood floors. It seemed to push things around more than suck them up, but it may be more operator error. Like others have said, some of the knobs and pedals and switches are hard to use at first. The handle release isn't too bad. The one I had trouble with was when switching from carpet to hard floors. That took a little muscle, but it will probably get better over time. It is also quieter than my old machine. I can still probably hear the phone ring over the noise this one makes. Not too bad. When we decided to retire our ancient old vacuum we looked at some of the fancy, expensive models but we just didn't want to spend $300+ on a vacuum cleaner.
Previous reviewers have pretty much captured the Pros and Cons effectively, but quickly: Pros-great suction power, works beautifully and tools are a bonus. Cons-heavy (not a problem for me because I have no stairs to clean), doesn't go as "flat" to get under furniture as I'd like, footpedal is hard to push sometimes.
But the pros outweigh the cons, and I'd definitely recommend buying this unit, especially since it's priced low vs. the competition!

My husband did alot of research on vacuums and when CR rated this vacuum as the best we figured what the heck. A BIG WRONG. I have had nothing but trouble. Just replaced a belt and now the vacuum has a high pitched ring. This is it for me, never again.Customer Review: Don't buy these!

What a cheap, crappy, vacuum cleaner! When I'm not replacing the drive belt at $13 a piece, I'm struggling to snap badly fitting plastic pieces back in the machine or lug it's hefty weight into position. I'd never buy another Eureka!Customer Review: EUREKA 4870DT ROCKS!!

Well, now you have done it!! Turned me into a STEPFORD Wife!! I will now look for an excuse to vacuum!! What a Machine--cleaned my Navy carpet with flowers like brand new....my carpet looked like it did the day I purchased it. This vacuum was easy to assemble and light to operate---the colors are also appealing to the eye. A vacuum with a bag is the cleanest way to go---this bagless trend can't last long. Thanks again Amazon.com___this is the only place I shop now\ for everything!
