I bought this vacuum cleaner on the recommendation of my brother and have not been disappointed in the least. It's by far the quietest vacuum I've ever used and has amazing cleaning capability on shag carpets, rugs, mats, whatever. All the extensions it comes with are quite handy as well. The built-in HEPA filter works really well and you don't get any dusty smell in the air when you vacuum like you do with most other cleaners. On a sidenote, I have a friend that owns a Dyson (which he bought for almost 4 times the price of this cleaner) and he's used this vacuum and was more impressed with it than his own cleaner. That says a lot.
There is only one issue with this cleaner that I would bring up -- the weight. I would not recommend this vacuum to women as some may actually have a problem lifting it to take up and down the stairs of a house.

I was very hesitant to buy a vacuum online. This product is rated a great buy in Consumer Reports and very difficult to purchase in the city where I live. The projected deliverly date was 2 weeks, when to my delight it arrived in 2 days. I am very pleased with the performance of this machine. We have 2 cats and the amount of hair is incredible. I recently purchased the Eureka 4870 after completing a fairly exhaustive search for the most powerful vacuum for the dollar. I read reviews on [...] and other sites, and for an economical and powerful upright, the needle seemed to point to this vacuum. Now that I have used it a few times, I would have to agree with those reviews, with few exceptions. I read a couple of reviews that said the attachments wouldn't stay on or were hard to place in their appointed slots, but either Eureka fixed this problem, or I just don't see it. I have had no problem with attachment storage or use. As for durability, time will tell, but it seems quite sturdy. As for cleaning capabilites, it cleans our carpet wonderfully. We have light colored carpet and a black indoor/outdoor dog. This vacuum has made our carpet look new again. It is strong enough to lift the fibers back up and give the carpet a uniform look, even over traffic areas. The ONLY disappointment was the power of the vacuum over hard floors. Maybe I'm not doing something right and I'll figure it out, but when you turn the brushes off to go over hard floors, it doesn't seem to pick up too well. So far, this is the only downside I've found. If you are looking in the upright market, I would take a serious look at this vacuum before buying anything else.Customer Review: Awesome Vacuum!

What more can I say? This vacuum is great. I bought it right before the holidays because the motor burned out in my Hoover. I have wool carpet, which requires a lot of TLC since it is old, we have 2 cats and a BIG hairy dog. My carpets have never looked so great. I highly recommend it. One thing: Pulling the vacuum back is a little difficult, and the back release takes some getting used to.Customer Review: Awesome vacuum,Awesome price

I bought this vaccum because of its ranking in a popular consumer magazine, and because of all the great reviews. This one definitely lives up to its billing.
It has great suction power. I have two cats and have had previous problems with other vacuums sucking up the hair. Not with this one. The attachments are great and have good sucking power.
The only draw back to this vaccum is that it is heavy. However, I don't mind that a bit since it does such a great job on carpet and wood floors.
I HIGHLY recommend this product. I convinced my brother and sister-in-law to purchase one as well. They said it made their carpets "just like new again." They have also been very pleased with the product.
