Customer Review: Best vacuum cleaner ever!

I have owned many vacuum cleaners over my adult life, and this is far and away the best one I have ever owned. It has tremendous suction and cleaned my carpeting (wall to wall and area rugs) so much better than my 4-5 year old comparable upright vacuum. My husband and I are amazed at its effectiveness!! It was extremely easy to assemble (attach the handle with 3 screws). The first bag was already installed.
Unlike some others, I did not have any problem with the handle release pedal.
The ONLY complaint I have is that this vacuum cleaner is almost too powerful to use on accent rugs (smaller than 4' x 6')--you really have to be careful, because the suction will lift even fairly good sized accent rugs off the floor and into the brushes. I accidentally damaged a very small entryway rug before I learned my lesson.

I have owned at least three of the most expensive vacuums a person can buy and not only have they not surpassed this particular vacuum---I would have to say, this vacuum surpassed all three of them.
I do live with all my home on one floor, but for the price, I would buy one for upstairs and one for down stairs if the only complaint one could have would be carrying it up and down the stairs.
I started out going over everyplace more than once, but it really is a waste of time. This picks it up on the first pass. If it continues to preform as it is now with regular upkeep, I see no reason to ever go back to the more expensive. When I see some of my old ones now, I just tell it like it is, "If you have it for the name or to impress someone, keep it. If you want the best cleaning, I would suggest the Eureka 4870DT Upright Vacuum."

I bought this vacuum based largely on the customer reviews. I wanted one rated highly by Consumers (reviews indicated it was) and it needed to be affordable. Because of my pets and alergies creeping up on me, I wanted a Hepa filter as well. I received the vacuum and couldn't wait to try it and I was very happy with the results. The vacuum picked up everything (cat and dog hair too), fluffed the nap on this old carpet and actually made it look as if I had had it cleaned! I was happily surprised to find that some spots I was going to use a rug cleaner on because my old vacuum hadn't gotten them out were gone after using this Eureka Vac. My only negative comment is that it is heavier than I expected it to be; however, as previous reviewers commented, the brush action actually does help pull the vacuum forward as if it were self-propelled so that helps quite a bit. I would recommend this one to someone as a great vacuum at a great price.Customer Review: Big and Clunky

Okay, we know Eureka didn't just starting making vacuums. I've owned Eureka's for years. This one is by far the most clunky, Heavy, unbalanced, hard to use, did I mention HEAVY? I'm a 195 lb. man that goes to the gym, I can't imagine Grandma trying to clean with this thing. It cleans carpets well once you can man-handle the thing. The hose is a joke; it's way too short. This may be a fine product. Indeed it seemed to be the first two times we used it. But the foot switch you step on to recline the back broke on the second use. Taking it in for warranty service this week. Now, every time you put the back into the full-upright-and-locked position, the foot switch pops about a foot into the air. There may also be a problem with the carpet-bare floor switch, which moves at random and doesn't seem to control anything. Warranty work so soon is ridiculous.
