Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer,313ACustomer Review: A Hottie and an Keeper! Summary: 4 Stars
It's a keeper! I enjoyed the fact that I can now clean all the wood floors quickly and have them gleam like when we did them on all fours. It works for a good while on the amount of water used ( 2X the measuring cup given.) My only frustration is that in small spaces,(moved beds to get under and around) when you're not "on a roll," it can feel awkward and heavy to turn. Must do a good job of sweeping or vacuuming first or you may end up with small strips of dust/hair which have rolled up and been left. That is easy to grab up at the end... something I noticed when I started getting tired and less careful. (Don't get a beach house unless you train your kids to help!!)
No extra expense for cleansers and no residue on the floor as it is just steam. Sturdy handle, long enough cord, meas. cup and funnel, base/holder for when heating or on "hold", (2)pads are thick cotton waffle-weave and easy to clean, attach. Gets very hot, which is one of the features I wouldn't do without, as it is the whole point of getting surfaces truly clean, not just wiped over. I did alot of research before getting this model and I'm glad I did. A good value. Good-bye knee pads!
Customer Review: A REAL user's impression. It's not rocket science... Summary: 1 Stars
What this appliance does (or rather, should do) is fairly simple: heat water to a temperature high enough to emit steam, to clean the floor. Much like a steam iron, you would think.
I purchased the 'Eureka Enviro Steamer', tried it according to the manual (3 times, to be sure, but now my better half had enough and it will be waiting for the garbage pickup at the curbside), and it fails miserably: Instead of 'steam cleaning' it 'dispenses' (pours) warm water generously all over the tiled floors, creating a mess and leaving the grout lines dirtier than it was before. In the end, we had to 'reactivate' the good old normal mop to get the puddles of water off the floors in our kitchen and living rooms. Not exactly a success :-)
I too read some of the glooming reports here before I bought the unit, and it makes me wonder if those reports are 'real'..
Customer Review: A Wet Mess Summary: 1 Stars
I'm sorry to ruin the five star rating of this product, but it does not work the way a true steam product should. Albeit the one I received may be flawed so I will be returning it to Amazon. The amount of water left behind on my hardwood floors is certainly not desirable. Water is a hardwood floors worst enemy. If you have to go over the entire area that you steam mopped with a dry mop then there truly is no point in owning a steam mop. I own a prosessional steam machine (made in Italy - cost $900.00) but it is bigger to lug around. This machine does not leave one drop of water behind. Obviously, the price of the two machines is quite different so I didn't expect the same results but I did expect something better than what I got. I was simply looking for something a bit smaller and made specifically for floors.
Customer Review: A disapointment, I am returning it Summary: 2 Stars
My item arrived, and there was some damage to the cord. I don't know if this was an used item that was being passed off as new, or if it was damaged in manufacturing. I tried to use it, and it made a very small amount of steam. Not enough for me to feel like it was 'steaming' anything. The handle is hard to manuver and kept getting stuck in certain positions. Also, the head of the mop was too big to fit in areas i needed - like the couple of inches under the cabinet and kickboard. I am returning this for a refund. i guess i'll go back to my old mop!
Customer Review: A dissapointment compared to the old model Summary: 2 Stars
We first purchased a Eureka floor steamer about 8 years ago (can't recall the model number, but unit is virtually identical). The prior model lasted those 8 years in almost weekly use before the heating element went out.
The heating element on the 313A purchased through Amazon on April 21, 2010 failed on August 5.
I called one of Eureka's authorized service outlets. They tell me the old units were made in Italy, and then production was changed to China or other locales. Possibly the quality control is not as good, but I expect also some "redesign" was applied. I noted for example that the power cord was shorter by approximately 5 feet (I can't be sure of exact shortening because my old unit was discarded). Also the new cleaning pads that come with the unit shrunk the first time they were washed, while the pads from the old unit are still usable. Have the bean-counters cheapened an otherwise excellent product?
I will have our 313A repaired/replaced under warranty, but will now use it only for a back-up and purchase something else.
