This does everything I want an apt. size vacuum cleaner to do. Excellent suction and very comfortable handle. It's also pleasantly quieter than my old vacuum. I never thought I'd be excited about a vacuum but I feel compelled to share that the Eureka Optima is awesome. It's a smaller vacuum that's ideal for a small house (such as mine) or an apartment. I wouldn't recommend this vacuum if you have a lot of floor area to clean. That's because the brush roller for the floor is actually a bit shorter (less wide) than other vacuums I've used so you need to go over an area of the floor a couple of times in different directions to thoroughly vacuum. With that being said, this vacuum is truly amazing and very well designed. First, it came disassembled but I was able to put it together very quickly without using any tools. I figured this was a good sign. The suction is very powerful. The "power claw" brush is excellent. I'm sure my stairs have never been so clean. And, you can turn the floor brush off while using the wand. This is really important so you don't accidentally run over the cord with the floor brush. I love that this version has a hepa filter -very important as we have four cats and two dogs. The vacuum is lightweight and mercifully easy to move around. I was also surprised to discover that this vacuum is a bit quieter than other vacuums I've used. It's certainly not "quiet" but the reduction in the noise was very welcome. The arm retracts so the whole vacuum is very small for storing (again, great for a small house). This one is a groovy dark metallic red/orange, which also make it kinda fun. Okay, so I never thought I'd care to write a review of a vacuum but the designers of this one get a lot of credit for creating a really excellent machine.Customer Review: Amazing Vacuum for the price

My dad recommended this vacuum and he was right, great little vacuum that thinks it is a big vacuum. It has great suction, is super light and even my kids can vacuum the stairs. I highly recommend this product. Also, I have two dogs and it is great for animal hair!Customer Review: Amazing Vacuum!

I live in a small 2 room apartment, with old wood floors and radiators. Imagine my happiness when I got this vacuum and was finally able to clean my floors and around my radiators with ease. The suction on the Eureka Optima is amazing; the option to switch between floor and hose is great...it picks up stuff I didn't even know was between the wood panels of my floors. I love the ergonomic and adjustable handle, and the size; it's perfect for my small apartment and for storage. Before this, I had a small Eureka Quick Up, which did the job, but not at all like the Optima; I'm able to vacuum in places where I never thought I would be able to!

Heres the hard facts
PROS:
1) If you have a lot of uncarpeted floors in your home/apartment, this is a great buy for cleaning bare floors ( I use the hose for everything!)
2) This little ( fairly lightweight) vacuum is a wonderful space-saver with its ultracompact size and adjustable vacuum handle
3) The "Power-paw" attachment is amazing! It is perfect for cleaning rugs and carpets, sofas and the like.
4) The canister is bigger than originally thought! I was worried with the complaints of many who mentioned that you constantly need to empty the vacuum after a few times. I have not needed to empty it out as often as I thought, in fact ( as dusty as my home has been ; since our last vacuum left so much dust/dirt behind) I am amazed at what this little sucker picks up. [I did 2 bedrooms and my bathroom and still haven't needed to empty out the canister as yet] (I guess it really all depends on the size of your rooms/house and how much dirt and dust one room has...
5) Surprisingly powerful. As an dust-allergy sufferer, I cannot affort to 'clean-up' after I have vacuumed. I hated vacuuming before we got this vacuum because I was constantly having to pick up what our old vacuum left behind, and with this one, it's not the case. This sucker is amazingly powerful and strong. Some complain about the sound (that it is loud) but I actually don't mind since I have never heard or owned a 'quiet' vacuum, I am actually quite content with it's 'noise'
CONS
1) The exhaust is in a weird location. Right above the vacuum's head is the exhaust. Its kinda weird because if you are trying to suck up something, the exhaust is blowing out hot air at the same time and might cause dust and dirt to go flying in the opposite direction to where you want it to end up. (Because I do not use the regular vacuum feature and use the hose and attachments more, I bypass this issue)
2) Hose might be a little short. I am not sure if the hose is too short or if my vacuum is so new that the hose has not stretched out a little bit, but in any case, the hose is like a perfectly new "Slinky" toy which needs to be elongated a little before you can attempt to clean your blinds and curtains
In all, I gave this vacuum a 4. I still love it to death and love lugging it around to clean my carpet-less floor. Hope you enjoy it too!
