Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum. 437AZ

Customer Review: Cheap plastic
Summary: 1 Stars

I wrote to Eureka to let them know the attachment holder (plastic) broke and I now have to thread the hose around the unit to keep it from flopping around. They basically blew me off, didn't offer a discount on a future product or a resolution to fixing the product. I will never purchase a Eureka product again.

Customer Review: Cheapest vacuum with a roller off switch
Summary: 4 Stars

PROS: This is a powerful vacuum. The power paw is great for animal hair. It's light. The selling point for me is that it's the cheapest vacuum that gives you the option of turning of rollers off while turned on. You need this for hardwood floors if your have cats, otherwise vacuums kick cat litter behind you instead of sucking it up. Also, if I'm using it outside to clean the car, I can use the hose to clean the car, and by turning the rollers off, the vacuum doesn't kill insects on the ground. The filter is very effective. A lot of people actually complain about this because they don't like to clean it, but I'd rather have dust in the filter than in my lungs or furniture. Seems silly to complain because something is too effective. Be sure to remove the filter from the lid and tap it out on the ground to get the excess dust out.

CONS: The plastic circle that holds the hose handle is very ineffective. I used a dremel to cut the plastic lip at the bottom of the piece that holds to hose handle so the handle can be shoved in further, and it stays in place perfectly now. If I didn't do this I'd give the vacuum a 2 or 3 star rating because it would pop out constantly and was very, very annoying. The air vent does blow dust around if the vacuum isn't tilted back. This has turned out to only be a little annoying sometimes. The elastic part of the hose can pinch your skin/pull your hair when it retracts which is painful, but this doesn't happen a lot.

Customer Review: Compact and attractive but does not deliver!
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't usually write reviews and have only written 1 other one, however, I was compelled to write one for this product. I was very excited when I received this vacuum but the excitement quickly turned into disappointment. I used it for the first time in a house I just moved into. It is loud and gives you the impression that it is powerful. That is not the case. I have a 2400 square feet home and it failed to do a satisfactory job in just 1/6 of it. I had to do one area repeatedly to get the job done. I used it on a 5x8 wool area rug and it barely picked up any dirt or lint. I thought that my carpet and rug were maybe too thick so I tried an old Hoover EmPower vacuum just to test the outcome. Just like that, everything is picked up!!! I had the Hoover for about 5 years and thought I should get a new vacuum for my house since it's much bigger than my old apartment. Boy, was I wrong! The Hoover is still used regularly, whereas the Eureka sits taking up space and looking pretty. It's been almost a year and I 've used it a handful of times, mainly for the stairs. The only reason why I didn't give this piece of junk 1 star is for that reason. It DOES clean the stairs easily. My Hoover is too big and bulky for that. Also, emptying the darn thing is a big pain in the a**. It's very messy and not user friendly AT ALL. I have my husband do it because it's so hard to get the top off. One time, everything just flew out and spilled everywhere during a struggle. Needless to say, it was not a pretty sight. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! I hope this review helps.

Customer Review: Decent sub $100 vacuum with one flaw
Summary: 4 Stars

The good:
I used it for the first time for one of my rooms where kids play in. Suction is very good. What I like is the manual switch to direct suction from floor brush to hose. My perception is that you don't loose suction or dirt movement velocity to the length of hose travel. So when suction is switched to floor suction is directly connected to brush instead of via hose like others. When you want to use the hose for sucking down the base of the wall you switch to hose. Also the on/off switch allows for suction alone or suction with floor brush. That way when you use the hose you can shut off the rotating brush.

The ugly:
dirt/dust travel into the canister but the path seems too close to the filter. Thus the actualy hepa air filter part gets clogged very quickly with dust wads. This actually makes me consider using another vacuum hose to clean out my canister filter each time. I also think that the design flaw could be intended to encourage filter purchases. As was reported by other customer's submitted photos, you can see dust accumulating at the top of the canister on the filter instead of at the bottom of the bagless canister. To be fair there is about 50% dust wad at the top stuck to one side of the air filter, and 50% dust wad at the bottom of the bagless canister. Shaking also does not dislodge the dust wad at the filter to drop to the bottom of the canister. I've yet to empty the canister and try that mechanism.

Addtional update:
so after using this some more and also getting feedback from others a few things to add.

-heavy feel to push, there are no height adjustments though not sure this would help with drag on carpet.
-the ratchet extension handle collapsed a few time mildly stripping the notches, its again has to do with difficulty to push
-the rotating 'Paw' pops out when you are vacuuming so store it away somewhere else.
-holding the handle as low as possible prevents the heavy load on handle to collapse, wife and others did not have problem with collapsing
-round handle allows for holding top allowing for more tilt

Customer Review: Doesn't matter what it does if it doesn't arrive in one piece
Summary: 1 Stars

This is one of a dozen items I ordered from Amazon as gifts. It was shipped from Amazon in the retail display box via UPS so there was no mistaking what it was when it arrived. Additionally, it had a foot shaped hole in the box and parts of the product were damaged or missing. No protective carton, no packaging material. Returned and will no be reordered. The same day a ceramic utensil holder arrived in a carton with no top and bottom packing, just one plastic air bag on one side and the ceramic holder in about a dozen parts. Ten minutes to order, 4 days to deliver, a month to process a return. I gave this one star because damage in shipment without a protective carton is expected.
