This thing works well for its intended purpose and is of high quality. To one of the earlier posters, it isn't *supposed* to find wiring behind wall board, it is intended to locate wires on a punch down block or other available source. I bought this tone generator to track down some speaker wires in the ceiling that had been installed during initial construction. Because they were in a highly visible location, I needed to be precise when cutting the hole for the speakers. The Extech worked for this application but beware that the tone is fairly weak and the detector tip must be within a few inches to pick it up. Worked OK through sheetrock.
