I bought this after the failure of a previous device, reviewed elsewhere. This one really works; the alarm is very loud, just what I wanted, so it could be heard in the house when it was sounding in the garage where the freezer is located. Haven't had a real power failure yet to test it in the real world, but I'm sure it will be a good performer when called upon; I tested it at the circuit box and it went off immediately and was audible at quite a good distance.
