Tools and Hardware Reviews of FastCap 3rd Hand Support System 57-to-144-Inches, 2-pack #3HAND5Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
The 3rd hand supports are great, made the job so much easier. What took 2 men was reduced to 1 man. I had never seen these before but was searching the web for anything that could make the job easier and the FastCap 3rd hand support system was just perfect.
Customer Review: Great extra pair of hands, just improve the quality Summary: 4 Stars
First package I rec'd was a disaster: 2 broken units with multiple missing/shattered parts. Fastcap needs to look into their quality control/packaging/shipping departments and fire some people. However thru Amazon, return/exchange (although an inconvenience) was simple. Once I rec'd a pair of complete, undamaged units, I assembled & put them to work.
I used them to install crown and they peformed well holding one end and the middle of long sections while I shot brads into the other end. Next, I used them to create a dust barrier for a kitchen demo job by holding plastic sheeting from ceiling to floor (wish I had 4 of them for that job). Next, I used them to hold up & position garage cabinets while I screwed them into the studs.
Overall, they work as advertised. I wouldn't trust them to hold anything too heavy, particularly if you have them extended out as the spring tabs that hold them in the extended positions are not the best quality and should have been designed differently (if they eventually fail I'll replace them with a cotter-type pin). The rubber feet snap into place well and articulate for various angles. the sqeeze handle for micro-height adjustment is a great feature especially when leveling cabinets or holding crown to the ceiling, but the (plastic) handle should have been better quality as it flexes under load.
All in all for the price you can't beat them and like another reviewer said, they don't talk back or offer opinions. Oh yeah, they don't take breaks or call in sick either.
Customer Review: Great for Crown molding Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished installing 6 inch by 16 ft. lengths of crown molding completely throughout a house I am building. Working by myself is a pleasure and the 3rd hand support system made this job not only possible to do by my self but much easier then I ever expected. The best helpmate I have ever purchased besides a pannel lift for sheetrock.
Customer Review: Great for crown molding Summary: 4 Stars
I just used a pair to install crown molding. Now, I'm wondering how I would have done the job without these handy helpers. Very impressive! I'm not concerned about the strenght of these supports for crown molding. Still, I would not put much load on them fully extended - maybe 10 pounds. Fully retracted, they are quite strong. There were no instructions, cautions, or specifications packed in the shipping box. I thought this to be very odd as manufacturers are pretty cautious about misuse of their products.
You can easily extend the supports to the proper length as you would with a pipe clamp and then chinch it tight with the hand hand grip. The grip and ball joints at the top and bottom are made of plastic and would appear to be easy to break. If it does, the support becomes useless. This concern is why I rated it with 4 stars. However, I've dropped mine on hard tile twice now and have not broken anything yet.
Customer Review: Great product, worth ever penny!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first "3rd Hand" last year. I thought I would use it for a specific project (Hanging kitchen cabinets) and never use it again. I just bought 2 more, and I find myself using them all the time. It's really a 3rd hand. I use 2 to hang sheetrock on ceilings and they are excellent when hanging crown moldings and trim. They're very strong and built to last. Great investment for any do-it-yourselfer!
