Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fein MultiMaster FMM 250Q Top Variable Speed Sanding and Scraping/Cutting Tool with CaseCustomer Review: Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
Does just what they say. I had to straighten a wall where it ended at a closet opening. I was able to cut the nails in about 20 sec, with no damage to the sheetrock where it mattered, as the molding covered it. The wall could then easily be pushed into the correct position and renailed. I was dreading doing this work so tried to hire someone. They were going to charge me $150 dollars and use a sledge. I learned long ago not to skimp on tools as the good ones last a lifetime. This tool is heavy but works so quickly it really doesn't matter.
Customer Review: Amazing tool! Summary: 5 Stars
Got this for my husband for father's Day, and he is thrilled. He installed new hardwood floors, a built-in closet and new sliding doors and said without the Fein it would have been impossible (for him).
Customer Review: An odd tool for odd jobs Summary: 5 Stars
This is an odd tool--nothing like it, but now lots of imitators. I recently bought the Multimaster top model, and started experimenting with it. I read a lot of other commentary before buying this tool, because (1) it's expensive, and (2)it's an odd tool. Apparently, on-line, there are other-brand accessories available to fit the MultiMaster which are less expensive, but I cannot yet comment on their quality.
I mean $400 is a lot of money for me, but a good tool is very hard to value-- especially when you have an odd job to do that's time-consuming, tiring, and frustrating as well. The sort of job you wish you'd never started--or had to do! The demonstrations on TV and website are reasonably accurate in showing its uses. This tool will not do everything, but it will do some jobs so slick, so easy, so quick... Wow! I was impressed and decided to keep it. The more I use it, the more I can envision more uses for it.
One specific comment I have is that you must learn the tool and it's idiosyncrasies. Otherwise, if you're heavy-handed and impatient, you could have problems like wearing out the sanding pad edges, etc. this is not a sledge hammer type of tool. It IS a high-quality tool. If you value a good tool and learn to use it, the Fein MultiMaster will become invaluable in many odd-job situations.
Customer Review: Awesome addition to hobbyist wood shop. Summary: 5 Stars
I just love this thing. My favorite aspects are the quick-change capability, the dust collection, and the power. If you're looking at it, you already know that it does jobs -- like "E" and flush-cutting -- you just can't do any other way. (Plus, you get sanding, etc, for free.) So I won't go into the basic purpose & functions. Some of my friends have the home center specials that attempt to compete with the Fein, but they really can't compare.
The biggest way (to me) that the cheaper models fail is in the power and durability. I've yet to have the Fein bog down in any job. It's got plenty of power to do whatever I need it to do. And it never hesitates, even when I bear down on it. I brought it to work alongside my friend on his boat. He was using a cheaper competitor. No comparison. This thing's built like a tank. You can tell it's all steel inside. (I gladly loan it to my friends, knowing they really can't hurt or damage it!) The others feel like plastic. The Fein just keeps going & going. It moves through material very fast.
The quick-change feature is excellent. On the kind of jobs I need to do, there's usually some experimentation to see what'll work. No problem. I just pop the accessories on-n-off and stick with what works best. No allen wrench or chuck key to drag around.
And the dust collection is strong! I've got the Fein 9-20-25 vac, so that helps I'm sure! But the suction is excellent. Work with Fein tools and the demands on your hearing, breathing and eye protection go way down.
[Oh, and I like the speed control exactly how it is. I can get to it easily when I need to, but it stays out of the way for the 99% of the time I'm not fiddling with it.]
Now I'm a hobbyist, so woodworking is recreation for me. Owning a tool like this is a pleasure. I'm not too terribly concerned about the price. By building my own wine cellar, I'm saving "$$$$". This tool costs "$" by comparison and makes the job pleasurable, safer, cleaner & more fun. Is it expensive? Yeah, I guess so. But I enjoy it a lot and can't imagine being without it now.
Go ahead ... treat yourself. You deserve it. Having this thing'll save you a hundred trips to the hardware store. Shoot, the gas alone pays for the tool!
Customer Review: Awesome tool Summary: 5 Stars
This is an expensive tool with expensive accessories, but in my opinion well worth it. I am an auto mechanic by trade and a homeowner that loves and appreciates quality time saving tools. Since my purchase 2 months ago I have used this tool to pattern cut and install a bath surround, cut and install plastic molding(using a simple adjustable square),trimmed out paneling while on the wall, removed a glued vinyl bathroom floor (with ease), plunge cut and removed damaged soffit material( with such precision that the removed wood could be used as a pattern for the new replacement wood)and scrape old paint off my house corners and soffits. I am very impressed with the tool quality and ease of changing attachments. The profile sanding attachment works good. The storage box could be of better quality but it serves it's purpose. If I were to purchase this again I would probably buy a bare bones kit and choose my accessories seperately. I have some attachments I will probably never use and would gladly trade for more wood and metal cutting blades. Hope this helps you out!
