Tools and Hardware Reviews of Feit Electric BPESL15T/BLB 13-Watt Compact Fluorescent Twist Bulb (60-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Black Light Blue

Customer Review: Great while it lasted!
Summary: 3 Stars

My wife and I loved the effect of this bulb, while it lasted. It was much brighter than any other black light (intended for consumers) we'd seen in the past. Unfortunately, it burnt out within about a month of light use (a few minutes a day).

It may have just been a faulty bulb, but considering the high price (for a single bulb, anyway), I'd expect better quality control.

Customer Review: It works great.
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased six fluorescent black light bulbs. They all worked very well with the black light posters I ordered soon afterword. They are not a bit like the black incandescent bulbs of the past. These fluorescent black lights work every bit as well as the tubes with the exception that they screw into yout average light socket. I plan to purchase a rack lighting system and filling it with some more fluorescent black lights. I'm very satisfied with my purchases of these lights.
Sincerely,
Adrian Alexis

Customer Review: Not really a Blacklight Bulb
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this for the sole purpose of it being used as a black light. This however isn't a black light. It's more like a plain CFL with the glass tinted a purplish color. It doesn't make the UV light pop on whites for example- at all. I have another bulb that is a CFL true UV blacklight bulb- and it does as I expected, when doing a side by said comparison of the bulbs lit- it's obvious this isn't a blacklight at all.

Customer Review: Product has changed, no longer any good.

UPDATE!!!

I had origianlly given this product a 5 star review. These bulbs have changed! The ones I bought in 2008 were great, the latest crop (2010) from Home Depot (and other places I am sure) with the same model number ARE NOT AS GOOD! They have a lot of pale blue light and not very much UV. They latest ones barely even charge up glow powder.

DO NOT BUY THESE!

Customer Review: Something's not right here
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm reading all these positive reviews and saying to myself, Something's not right here. I bought one of these and it DOES NOT work well. Sure, if you compare it to an "incandescent bulb," which too many other reviewers suspisciously do, it is marginally better. But if you compare it to a full size black light fluorescent tube, this CF version is sorely lacking. This bulb, used with or without a shade, does not make white, like your teeth or on your clothes, glow brightly. It only marginally makes bright colors pop. The black light effects are not obvious; you have to really look for them. If you think you're going to use these at a party and everyone freaks out, forget it. I think the problem is the bulb is too bright. You would think it makes sense that a fluorescent light, even in CF form, would make black light work better, but it is a poor substitution for "real" black light fluorescent tubes.
