Customer Review: Good product, some drawbacks
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, a great product. No doubt the brightest flashlight I own, and ounce for ounce, one of the brightest around. While total output exceeds my older, large 4D luggable, the Fenix does lack a focal point for long throw. I've used it both for camping and nightly walks with my dog and enjoyed it. Having confidence in a light I can get rained on or even dunked is nice. For someone with big hands, it's actually almost too small to use comfortably in my palm. The difference between "normal" and "turbo" is minimal, and for most applications, normal is fine. I actually prefer the low setting for anything not requiring detailed attention. Low is more than enough for reading books in the dark and walks along flat trails or lawns.

Construction seems sturdy, fit and finish are high. The box it came in doesn't look much better than a lot of products at the dollar store, but the actual product seems pretty good.

The drawbacks are few, but noticeable. Having to cycle through output levels to find the one you want (low in most cases) is frustrating, especially when you don't want to annoy (or wake) those around you. Sometime you'll accidentally rotate the lens, switching modes unintentionally. The strobe and SOS pulse levels are superfluous for most people. Additionally, the key-ring clip and holster are pretty much an either/or. It's impossible to quickly stow the light in the holster or extract it if you have the clip attached.

Great gift for: -
Guy who already carries a multitool on his belt all the time.
Person who needs a quality light in tight places (plumber, repairman)
Lady who wants a quality light to carry in her purse (it's too big for pockets).
-Backpacker who needs something small, light and reliable.
-Proud early adopters willing to drop a few $$.

Not good for:
-Person who's not going to need a light more than every couple of months.
-Camper looking for a bright camp light (no candle mode).
-Bargain hunters (yeah, it's cheap compared to Surefire, but if you are stingy with your money, get a traditional incandescent like a mini-mag and get the LED upgrade).

Customer Review: Good, could be better.
Summary: 4 Stars

I was expecting alot from this little light - maybe too much. As the owner of several hundred dollar plus lights, I eagerly anticipated a light that promised to outshine them for only $70. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed. It doesn't seem any brighter than my HDS EDC U60 on high mode. There's also a giant black donut that surrounds the hotspot. I love all of my Fenix lights - they're a steal for what you pay for them, but honestly I was expecting a bit more than what I got. On the plus side, it's extremely tiny and lightweight, the extra modes are neat although I generally only use the high setting, it seems very well constructed, and it looks nice. I like clickies so the twist head bugs me a bit, but I think the idea was to pack as much light into a small and affordable package possible. At that it succeeds immensely. If you don't own an ultra-bright CR123A flashlight yet, grab this one. If you already have a nice light, you may be a little disappointed by the hype.

Customer Review: Great LED light
Summary: 5 Stars

The Fenix P1D is a good little light, and I do mean little. The thing fits easily on just the palm of my hand- no fingers! The on/off is controlled by a method that Fenix apparently does not use anymore- a twist of the head, there is no clickie switch on this light (For the same light, a tad bigger and with a clickie look for the Fenix P2D). There are several settings including general, low, high, strobe, SOS. Comes with a black belt holster and takes the CR123 lithium battery. You can purchase these batteries online for roughly $1 a piece when bought in bulk, or for $5 a piece when purchased retail. However, the Energizer Lithium is the BEST for these LED lights.

Customer Review: Great light

I'm really happy with this flashlight. It's small enough to stick in my pocket so I find that I take it everywhere with me. And the brightness is pretty incredible for such a little light.

Customer Review: Handful of light
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my favorite carry flashlight, it hardly takes up any room no matter what pocket you put it in. On the high setting it lights up a broad area that few lights of any size can match, and I have a large collection of Luxeon-based lights up to 5 watts and one K2. The K2-based light runs two CR123 batteries and tends to get hot, which the Fenix doesn't.

Since it runs on one battery it's easy to tuck another battery away in case you really need a lot of light for a long time. The strobe is very impressive, looks like it's projecting 135+ watts. The SOS is a little slow, but it's usable.

When you get good at twisting it for on/off you can one-hand it without a lot of fuss by setting it for a minor twist. If this is is a portent of the future, I can't wait to see what other Cree-based offerings come along from other manufacturers. Highly recommended.
